By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 22, 2007 | 0 out of 1 found this Heat (1995) review helpful

    Pros: Great crime story

Cons: Never seen DeNiro as one of the bad guys

This riveting story about an intense rivalry between expert thief Neil McCauley (De Niro) and volatile cop Vincent Hanna (Pacino). McCauley will stop at nothing to do what he does best and neither will Hanna, even though it means destroying everything around them, including the people they love. With a solid supporting cast that includes Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Ashley Judd, and Natalie Portman, HEAT is a truly epic crime story.

This is a very good movie. The cast is awesome, the plot is great, and it all comes together well. Fans of Pacino, DeNiro, or Kilmer need to see.

    HEAT MISER

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 13, 2005

Pros: WRITER, PRODUCER, DIRECTOR MICHAEL MANN

Cons: THE ACADEMYS NEVER ENDING BLIND NATURE TO THE BRILLIANCE OF MANN

Kevin Lucero Less - Professor of Cinema, Art of The Cinema, Tucson Museum of Art, Art School. As with every Michael Mann film, his style and understanding of story, mise en scene, editing, sound and casting renders most other film makers nil. Heat is a complex montage of characters moving down a path of destruction to the emotional backdrops of Los Angeles. Mann will always be taken down a road of nostalgia, with his contemporary works being compared to his Miami Vice creation, however as with Vice, Ali, The Insider or any other Mann production there is nothing to remark on, other than his brilliance as a film-maker and the question, why has he never been given the Oscar he has earned?

Couldn't have chosen two better actors. Al Pacino & Robert DeNiro were outstanding. Let's not forget about Val Kilmer either... he was great too.

The lead cast play off each other as only Di Niro and Hoffman could. Their level of intensity to prevail over one another is overwhelmingly smooth.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 23, 2002

There are so many quotable lines from this movie I don't even know where to start. Like Glengarry Glen Ross, this film combines a strong script with great directing and a stellar cast.

There are many underrated great performances in this film, including Ashley Judd and John Voight. Needless to say Pacino and De Niro are absolutely stellar, and you can tell they truly love the parts they are playing.

    Best heist/crime movie EVER? Possibly.

    That stupid Val Kilmer!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 16, 2002

The screenplay is good, directing better than
good and the cast is great... except that I
hate Val Kilmer! He ruined the movie! Anyway:
    Otherwise a good film.

    interesting

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 21, 2002

It was very well done, and certainly openned my eyes. But often I found it hypocritical and flawed. I followed it all, but I could not find my self to agree with the bad guys most of the time, they were *extremeley* complicated looking characters, but the values of the script didn't match up with theirs. Good camerawork despight obvious sets. And a bit too packed with stars to make me see past a hollywood award show. So, good movie to start on, but there are better.

    HEAT

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 27, 2002

A masterpiece! Two contemporary acting greats, Pacino and De Niro are at odds amidst an all star cast in this fantastic crime drama. Written and directed by Michael Mann, this movie has a lot of the same look and feel that made his earlier hit TV show series, Miami Vice, such a hit. The terrific camera work, editing and soundtrack come together in a way that Mann has become known for.

The story goes beyond the normal detective story in that it delves into the lives of the characters. The story and dialog are intellectual and realistic. There is a feeling of "the blues" running throughout the film which is just intense enough to allow the viewer to feel the emotions of the characters without ever going overboard. The movie is well balanced in this respect and never becomes dark or depressing.

This is a must for any fan of the genre, or fan of Pacino or De Niro. It is my sincere hope that we will see similar efforts from Michael Mann in the future. Maybe even a Heat 2! Pacino's character Hannon is such a hot shot, you just want more!
