It is all done and said.this album was remarkable.this album was the last and greatest new wave album ever!!! powerful synthesizer sound."Heartbeat City" consisted 4 top ten singles. the album was welly organized and produced.there are different ver...sions of "Heartbeat City" the regular printed US version CD,then the blue printed colored disc. also dont forget about the rare orange coated CD which is very valuble.if you happen to have that orange disc you have a goldmine.if so email me and tell me about it.as for heartbeat city it is fully recommended!!!!! • Overall:

    Their most high-tech release.

By Bob  Aug 12, 2000 | 1 out of 1 found this Heartbeat City [Alternate Cover] review helpful

This album is awash with sequencers and synths and the results are mainly remarkable. It contains great cuts like "Hello Again", "Magic", the synth layered "Drive" & the hard rocking "You Might Think".

  • All Music Guide

MTV had become a major marketing tool by 1984, and the Cars were one of the first bands to use the new video medium to their advantage. The band's fifth album, Heartbeat City (Elektra), spawned several imaginative and memorable videos, which translated into massive chart and commercial success, making it one of the biggest releases of the year. Produced by hitmaker John "Mutt" Lange (AC/DC, Def Leppard), the album included two Top Ten singles the ballad "Drive" and the charismatic "You Might Think" plus an additional two that landed in the Top 20: the summer anthem "Magic" and the eccentric "Hello Again." But it didn't just stop there, plenty of other tracks could have been hits as well, such as the sparse rocker "It's Not the Night" and the breezy pop of "Looking for Love." Other highlights included the ethereal title track, the melodic rocker "Stranger Eyes," and the moderately paced love song "Why Can't I Have You." Although the Cars experienced their greatest success yet with Hea...rtbeat City, it would unfortunately not last for long after just one more studio album (1987's spotty Door to Door), the band split up. - Greg Prato, All Music Guide Read more Less

The Cars

Blondie may have had a string of number one hits and Talking Heads may have won the hearts of the critics, but the Cars were the most successful American New Wave band to emerge in the late '70s. With their sleek, mechanical pop-rock, the band racked up a string of platinum albums and Top 40 singles that made them one of the most popular American rock roll bands of the... Read more
