New Edition, along with the newcomer Johnny Gill came up with a more mature sound thanks to Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.
Escaping from the teeny bop craze and heading into more adult contemporary subjects. They all have grown into fine men and needed a new sound. Every song rocks from "That's The Way We Livin'" to the grown up song "Boys To Men". Ralph and Johnny embodied pure masculine strength when it came to "Can You Stand The Rain". Ralph is in fine voice over almost every track. Johnny, being the newcomer was in rare form when he belted out his parts. My favorite song will always be "You're Not My Kinda Girl". Johnny throwing off vocal adlibs and Ralph singing the lead shows versatility. The rest of the group was in all good form.
Ricky shines on throughout the album. If you want grown material from five sexy men who knows how to throw down vocally as well as lyrically, then cop dis!

If you can't feel right listening to this album, you should get your hearing checked. This was the best NE album, thanks to the addition of Johnny Gill. Borrow, beg buy this album if you get the chance.

All the songs are classic masterpieces,from "If It Isn't Luv","Crucial Luv","Super-lady","Can u stand the rain" and last but not least "Boyz to Men".l haven't gone the past decade without listening to the album at least thrice a week.

This is my favorite New Edition album,I love "Not my kind of girl","Crucial, "Can U Stand the Rain", "If it isn't love and "N.E. Heartbreak". This album set the trend for artists such as Boyz to Men, Portrait, Shai, Hi-Five, 112 and Jagged Edge in which there last album was titled "J.E. Heartbreak!

NE leads music into 90's

With New Edition's release of "NE Heartbreak", the group led music in the transition from the pop filled 80's to the R&B/soul music that crowded airwaves in the 90's. The album served as a transition for the group as well. The loss of Bobby Brown and addition of Johnny Gill changed the dynamics of the group. The more mature sound can be heard on such classic tracks as "Can you stand the rain" and "Boys to Men" (yes that is where Boyz II Men got there name). The deep Teddy Pendergrass like voice of Gill starkly contrasts that of Ralph Tresvant, yet serves as a perfect compliment. This is the rare album that does not contain filler tracks. This is a classic.

New Edition's "Heartbreak" album covers all of my moods. I can play it when I want to dance to Jonny warn about "N.E. Heartbreak" or when I want to hear Ralph serenade his "Superlady." It does not take a die hard New Edition fan to appreciate the superiority of this album.
