    a decline album

Probably the worst Suede. The band has done marvellous stuff before but this doesn't reach their usual standards. Too much warpy electric sounds and not enough decent instrumental work makes it more disco than melodious. Suede are definately lost wi...thout their messiah: Bernard Butler. Read more Less

    Give Me Head

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 29, 2000

Traffic. Doves. Dreamy double suicides. Trains. Naughty lovers. Sex. Being a detached kinda cool. How many songs can you write about these same subjects? Ask Brett Anderson. He's made a career out of it. The cat is out of the bag. Brett Anderson do...esn't know what to write about anymore. On his band's fourth proper record, and his third record of recycled themes, "Head Music," Anderson succumbs to his dying muse, but still somehow manages to make everything sound fresh and inviting. Kickstarting with the intentionally electrifying "Electricity" with its discombobulated bass and repetitive lyrics, Suede find themselves doing what they do best: the catchy pop single. But it's the only one on "Head Music" that is radio-friendly-catchy. While this would be the death knell for most bands, it is simply a springboard for Suede. Weaving elements of electronica with their staple glam, Suede have concocted an album that is both dually understated and stylishly grandiose. On the sublime "Can't Get Enough," Suede chug through 4 minutes sounding like a horny Sex Pistols trying to seriously cover a T-Rex song. Switching gears, they send shivers down the spine of a lover on "Everything Will Flow" with its trancy strings and half-sung lyrics. No more show-stopping howls from Anderson, though! He's done with oversinging a la "Still Life" from their second album "Dog Man Star". It's on to becoming the casual onlooker with musings like "Asbestos" and "Down." Sighing, rather than singing, one can just picture Anderson taking a long, slow drag from the cigarette and exhaling like a beat poet in Post-war Berlin. But the man can still rock when he Read more Less

    Shame, shame

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 8, 2000

This is bobbins. I'm a big Suede fan and this is a disappointment. It's dull. It goes on and on but doesn't actually get anywhere. There's some good bits but it leaves me cold, i'm afraid. At least Coming Up got to some sort of conclusion.

    good, but nothing new.

quite a recovery from the weak coming up, head music contains some new electronic influences, but overall it' s just another suede album. sure, there are some beautiful songs like he' s gone, electricity or everything will flow, but since bernard bu...tler' s departure they seem to be a bit too slick to me. One foot out of sync with the other...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 21, 2000

Suede staked out their claim on pop with a winning formula: dirty guitar based sound, tight, concise songwriting, and a singer from London's grim surburban belt who brought all his fascination and repulsion with London to a wonderfully expressive an...d articulate voice. But times have changed , and for now the days of the guitar band are gone. Instead we have the sleek economy of electronica, and Suede have followed this with vigour in their sound, trimming the guitars and focusing on the rhythmic structure. Sonically this album is an amazing growth spurt for a band that could have easily started becoming an aging parody of themselves. The clanking drive of Can't Get Enough, summery euphoria of She's In Fashion, and slinking funk of Asbestos being good examples. Unfortunately, Mr. Anderson is being left behind. The characters of his drugs-and-sex urban moral vaccuum should be dead after 6 years, but like Jason Voorhees, they keep rising with less impact every time. Still one of my all time favorites, but Brett needs to put the pills down and take a walk in the country. At this point I rather hear about boring farmers than boring London party girls. Oh my God-The Best album yet

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 20, 1999

Even better than the old albums, the way they can express their feelings and emotions in their music, in other words, simply wonderful. A must for all fans of suede
