Although the Harm Farm's original violinist, Morgan Fichter, left the group prior to their debut recording to join Camper Van Beethoven, the connections between the two bands don't stop there: both are from San Francisco, feature the violin prominently in their arrangements, and experiment with world/ethnic music fusions. Following Fichter's departure, drummer Noah Chasin switched to violin and had his old chair taken by Melanie Clarin (ex-Cat Heads and Donner Party); the rest of the group's nucleus includes vocalist/guitarist T. Hallenbeck and bassist Brad Pedinoff. Harm Farm debuted on record with 1990's Spawn, produced by avant-garde guitar legend Henry Kaiser; the follow-up Nice Job, Einstein appeared a year later.
