He's a Wack Rapper With a Couple of Beat

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 11, 2002

Mase was one of the wackest rappers ever to come out but he had average production. I did happen to like 3 songs. "Do You Wanna Get Money" was a decent party track that had a funk/dance like sample to it. "I Need T Be"w/Monifah had the tightest beat ...but Mase should've just let the instrumental play because lyrics ruined the song. "24 Hours To Live" was the other listenable track on the album and this featured one of DMX's only good verses in his life. But everything else is totally wack. Nelly is just like Mase..wack rappers who got lucky off a catchy hooks! I'm glad he retired! Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Harlem World

  • All Music Guide

It's a little ironic that Mase, who made his reputation as a guest rapper on records by Puff Daddy and the Notorious B.I.G., almost seems like a guest himself on his debut album, Harlem World. Like many big-budget hip-hop records, Harlem World is nearly a various-artists collection, featuring an array of different producers and guest rappers that often obscure Mase himself. Still, all that talent guarantees that the record will be well-crafted, and that certainly is true. With Sean "Puffy" Combs and Jermaine Dupri behind the decks for much of the album, Harlem World has a dense, funky sound that is uptempo party-rap at its best. Like any late-'90s hip-hop record, it's a little too long for its own good, but the singles, such as the bouncy "Feel So Good," make it worthwhile. It still would have been nice to hear more of Mase on his own album, though.

Biography

Mase

Best known as Puff Daddy's favorite sidekick, Mase secured his place as a Bad Boy label favorite through a series of guest appearances on hit singles by other artists. By the time he issued his debut album, the Bad Boy promotional machine had effectively already made him a star. His flow was slow and relaxed, and his raps often unabashedly simple, which helped make him ... Read more
