    The Hardest Part is Turning off the CD p

    As her Website says, "Allison Moorer does not write or sing ditties." This album proves that ballads can be evocaitive without being cliche (the stark and heart-breaking "Cold, Cold Earth") and fun can be devoid of ditsyness (the hilarious and true ..."Think it Over"). Allison is the Anti-bimbo for those of us sick of a certain Canadian's navel.But how good is this album. I was recently at the Girl's Night Out concert and they played "The Hardest Part" cd between sets. This album is so good that I was dissappointed when they broke from "No Next Time" to go into Reba's show.For more fun with Allison, buy her sister Shelby's "I am Shelby Lynne" and marvel at how all their songs are styallistically different ways of saying exactly the same thing.     The best, bravest, most uncompromising album to come from Nashville this year. Dark, moody, elegant, complex, coherent, unabashed, unflinching, mature, assured, amazing. A necessity.
