Not many synth-pop bands survived the '80s. Of those that did, most either because tribute bands to thier '80s material, producing nothing worth noting in the '90s, or making more watered down boring music in the '90s. Few, very few, got darker and ...heavier. Real Life is one of the rare few bands that did, and this is the album they did it best on. "Happy" is in no way or form a throwback to the '80s. The music on here is dark gothinc sounding industrial synth-driven dancable rock at it's finest. It's comparable to Covenant, VNV Nation, and the mid-'90s album "Don't Be Afraid" by fellow '80s synth-pop legends Information Society. The beat makes you want to be in a club moving to it. I've noticed to this day, many goth club DJs still play "Send Me An Angel". In spite of it's age, that song just has the right feel. So does all of this album, but as that was cutting edge for the mid-'80s, this album was cutting edge for the late-'90s. "Happiness" isn't an easy album to find, but if you like dark heavy dancable synth-based industrial, it's well worth your time to seek out a copy. Read more Less
