    Just for the record.

This is the most under-rated album of all time. If you want to know what music sounds like through a tormented, cynical, sad heart, check out this cd. CW at their peak... • Overall:

Catherine Wheel's finest album to date.

    By Brandon  Mar 30, 2001

The Catherine Wheel bring a balanced album with great moments of pure emotion and a rock assualt like no other. Yet even on the harder tracks there is a pure melodic approach to Dickinson's songwriting. I have every album by Catherine Wheel since thi...s album and I would still rate it as one of my favorite albums. The band hit the scene in the early 90's with the single "Waydown". Other standout tracks include "Judy Staring At The Sun" with supporting vocals from Belly's Tanya Donnelly, "God Inside My Head" starts the album out in a thrashing way. To round out my top 5 tracks off this album I would have to include "Heal", "My Exhibition", and "Kill My Soul". Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Happy Days

  • All Music Guide

After releasing two records that faithfully followed the noisy, swirling trance-like psychedelia of My Bloody Valentine, Catherine Wheel trims out all of their excesses on Happy Days. What is left is a throttling, pounding heavy metal band that accentuates the rhythm, not the texture. The change in direction is surprisingly effective and accessible -- none of their previous work has been as immediate as "Way Down" or as bracing as "God Inside My Head," nor has it been as melodic as "Judy's Staring at the Sun," a duet with Tanya Donnelly. Perhaps the switch to a heavier attack shouldn't be surprising -- Chrome was filled with harder guitars -- but the fact it has produced the band's best music is a pleasant shock.

Biography

Catherine Wheel

By using their influences as a mere launching pad and consistently developing their many strengths, Catherine Wheel was able to outlast all of their early peers. With their initial singles and first album, the band from East Anglia fit snugly with the remainder of bands that the British press eventually labeled as shoegazers, a short-lived sub-scene of bands that were c... Read more
