Brand Anderson's 2000 character piece Happy Accidents didn't get much play beyond Sundance. Nevertheless, its soundtrack is a solid collection of moody, electronicatinged indie pop and period light jazz that just might outresonate the film. Josephine Wiggs and Vivian Trimble's Dusty Trails project was already quite cinematic; the three songs they contribute here especially "Dusty Happy End"]'s chilly mix of mechanics and warmth only solidify that notion. The pleasant bossa nova sway of Legendary Jim Ruiz Group's "Be My Valentine" meshes nicely with High Llamas' lush chamber pop, as well as "Mima", a vintage cut from jazz saxophonist Eddie Harris. There's even a bit of the film's quirky scifi romantic plot reflected here, most notably in Evan Lurie's avantgarde piece "Into the Future". Overall, Happy Accidents separates from the film it represents, standing as a mellow, yet breezy blend of spacey pop and nocturnal background music.
