    Hannibal is chilling!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 23, 2006

    Pros: atmospheric

Cons: the shock ending did turn people away

Anthony Hopkins gave a chilling performance as Hannibal, "the Cannibal", Lector. Everytime he talked intelligent and gave historical quotes gave me chills. He seem like normal college professor, but deep-down inside he is a sadisticinsane psychopath. But people watching this movie don't seem to understand that. The movie is a suspenseful and intense thriller because it focuses on the life of a psychopath. In the beginning of the movie, we see him as a regular human being talking sophicatedly and a guy we like to listen to. But as the film progresses, we see him in true form as a cannibal. He is psychopath who likes to kill and eat people. At first we feel he is a hero and we begin to like him, which is scary because he is truly a full-blown villain. At the end, we see him do an unexplicable act and are horrify at it. For this reason, I believe most people hated the movie. It isn't because of the graphic and gory scene, it is because we were enjoying him throughout the movie and was loving him, but then we are impacted, like a train wreck, and we realize that he is truly psychotic. We cannot believe we were liking this guy! And if you see Clarice at the end, she immediately changes from liking him into hating him altogether. Throughout the movie, the people were really the character of Clarice. This is truly a terrific movie and a misunderstood psychological thriller!!

    Cannibal!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 24, 2002

Ridley Scotts dive into the Hannibal Lector story, turned out great. Once again Anthony Hopkins performance as Hannibal the Cannibal
was excellent. Jullianne Moore did a great
job also, with filling Jodie Fosters shoes.
The extensive gore and superb acting make this
    a very entertaining movie.

    Hannibal is a Great Film!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 6, 2002

I will have to defend Hannibal. Hannibal is a great film that is equally and in some cases even more entertaining than The Silence of the Lambs. Ridley Scott has done a great job directing with style, gore and great locations. He really should have used the 2:35:1 camera instead of 1:85:1. Anthony Hopkins, well what can I say, he is great and fits back into the role of Hannibal Lector perfectly. Julianne Moore has done a good job fitting into Jodie Foster's shoes as Clarice Starling and overall there acting is spot on. The script has been written perfectly and the Hans Zimmer music score has topped it off perfectly. All I can say is Hannibal is a great movie that has been made right down to the last detail perfectly. Must See. Great job Ridley.

Hannibal is just a lil' better then SOTL becaus

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 23, 2002

Hannibal is just a lil' better then SOTL because Anthony Hopkins gets to be in way more of it. But I wish Jodie Foster would have agreeed to be in the project because it just would have been cooler even though Julianna Moore did a great job. And the ending you will never forget for the rest of your life.

If you don't love this movie...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 8, 2002

then u don't know anything about great filmmaking. This movie features the best screenplay ever written, the best music score ever composed, some of the most beautiful imagery and cinematography ever captured on film, the most brilliant acting and directing ever, great characters, compelling storyline, absolutely exhilerating death scenes, a great ending, humor, suspense, gore, sophistication, etc... This film has too many strengths to even count, this movie is so great it makes up for how bad the Silence of the Lambs was. This is quite simply THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE. And the DVD is great. A 2-disc set that gives an in depth look into the best film of all time. An absolute must own DVD. I saw this living work of art 8 times in theatres and I have watched the DVD over 20 times. This is the type of spectacular filmmaking that the oscars should be recognizing, not crap like Silence of the Lambs, Titanic, and Crouching Tiger. WHAT A MOVIE!!! if you have any sense of good taste in movies at all, u will love this, then again, if u have no taste, then the oh so boring Silence of the Lambs is the movie for u. HANNIBAL FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!****

One of the Best Films Made!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 8, 2002

Hannibal is one of the best films I have ever seen. It is a great sequel to "The Silence of the Lambs". Most sequels I have seen in the past have been really crap. There have been very few sequels that have been able to match there first film. Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Black Hawk Down) directs this sequel with style, class and takes us to exotic locations and does not cut back from any of the horror. Anthony Hopkins (Heatrs in Atlantis) reprises his role as Hannibal "the cannibal" Lector and Juliannne Moore (Evolution) does a fine job as Clarice Starling (Originally played by Jodie Foster).
It has a good storyline, great locations, Hans Zimmer music score and good grusome bits. A truely great film! Ridley Scott has given us another one of his great Masterpieces. A must see and have film!

Good sequel to an excellent film

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 7, 2001

This film, to me, is [unfortunately] one of the best films of 2001. This year has displayed many, MANY bad films, but Hannibal, if you look at it, is actually quite good, and is almost in the same league as Silence of the Lambs. The acting in this film is more than Oscar deserving. Though i think that Jonathan Demme would have done a better job, what with knowing the characters and what not and knowing the story, but Ridley Scott did a FASCINATING job.. I love this film. I now LOVE julianne moore and anthony hopkins. The feel of this film is just so... mind bending.. Its very captive, this film. Very good. It's one of my new favorites

HANNIBAL IS TO STYLED THIS TIME MAKING IT SUX..

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 3, 2001

Yeahh I loved the film Silence of the Lambs, I thoght it was terrific a B+ Worthy Film. But here comes Hannibal mixing the tale of this wiered cannibal man. Clarice looks way to advanced and Hannibal is to elegant and more violent. The Film truly passes into a no no, its way to grusome and to much gore. Silence of the Lambs was not elegant and Hannibal was just a nice dangerous man. The film was directed by Ridley Scott, wich diricted by fabroite movie Gladiator, now why would he pass the no no, to make it look stupid. Now the movie goeers seemed to have passed a bought a ticket to feed hannibal. But it truly is a messed up Sequel that will gross whatever your apitite. Pass this menu and grab Gladiator and watch what movies are really capable of making: a Beautiful Film.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 8, 2001

Always people gripe when they say the book was better than the movie..so what. This movie was equally as fantastic as the book. IT did have a different mood but still the ever "loveable" character of Hannibal was still with us. We received the book's superb story, as well as, an interesting movie randition. So why cry when we get more of a good thing?

I love the novel, reading Manhunter Red Dragon, the Silence of Lamb, and Hannibal was real excited. Icould not wait to see the movie came out, but the result, so strange.. the movie seems to me the different story than the book, so different..I could not find their love which was the most important theme of this story, the story does not make sense if just seeing movie only. Or may be I was wrong that did not catch the director's intention..?

everyone seems to be extremely down on this movie, although i agree scott is too predictable, and focuses on appereance more than content, it is still a very good movie. if it had not been the predessor to perhaps on of the best thrillers of all time it may not have recieved the attacks that it did.

    This Movie is terrible

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 20, 2001

I loved Silence of the Lambs, shooot I loved Manhunter, this movie is awful. I don't have a problem with the violence; the story, the acting, the complete lack of originality, and intent to shock rather than entertain i do have a problem with. I am even more incredulous to how predictable Ridley Scott has become, the guy cannot end a movie so he tries to gross us out, I was jusr bored.

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS was much better in my opinion, but it was still a fair sequel. The ending where the brain is eaten could have been left out. But it still had that scary theme to it all, but it could have been a lot better

I loved this movie, I was on the edge of my chair all of the time. The writting was excellent and the way they added Julia Moore was very good. I did not miss Jody Foster at all. Moore was very good and convincing in her part. Wish more of Florence would of been left in the film. Anthony Hopkins again is a winner and his costumes, especially in Florence were very well done. Great story even though the ending was changed. CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE. Hopkins with only one hand?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 11, 2001

The movie was okay. That's it... I was expecting better, as it chugged along it was just okay. Then, in the last 20 minutes, the movie seemed to go off course and I began questioning Hopkins, Liota and all the other actors sanity in agreeing to do this project. A lot of unnecessary violence, don't get me wrong, I like violence, it's just nice if it is relevant to the content. Glad I only rented the DVD instead of buying it.

    The Worst

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 4, 2001

In all fairness to the makers of this film..I'll start by saying this... the book actually wasn't better!!!

That said, the flawed book upon which this movie is based is what's to blame for this debacle.

In "SOTL" Hannibal was pure monster..captured in a cage, this go, he is free to roam..and evidently is forced to use his superior intellect on snappy one-liners.

Julianne Moore is a great actress, misused as Starling. Ray Liotta is, as always, in fine form, albeit for the ill-conceived conclusion, but it was my take that Anthony Hopkins suffered the worst performance. He is an amazing actor to be sure, but his performance here is neither lasting nor scary. He is Hannibal-lite..and wheras the first film stuck with your for weeks..this barely registers a nightmare.

Finally, I think it needs to be said that the direction of Ridley Scott ruins the stripped down horror created by Jonathon Demme. Again, Scott is a top-notch director and the picture is beautifully shot... it just seems to be an ill-advised excercise.

So, what can one say, good performances in a bad movie. Based on a bad book. Based on a great series.

    Pleasantly surprised but where's Miesha??

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 2, 2001

Anthony Hopkins knows his character like no one else, save the author. I still think they should've gone with Mr. Hopkins' composition for the main theme! Dr. Lecter *is* a romantic, however calculating he can be.

I read the book quite awhile ago and was anxious to see if the movie was anything close to it. I did not rush out to the theaters like most, but waited for DVD. Thankfully it was, for the most part. And with the DVD came all the fun extras.

My main criticism of this adaptation was the blatant disregard of Dr. Lecter's psychology (the main focus of the book); the flashbacks to his childhood when the Nazi's killed his sister, Miesha, and his enduring quest to find her again. He does find her in Starling.

Likewise, Starling is also on a quest to find peace with her father's death. In the book she finds this through Dr. Lecter. In the move, however, these things never come to light.

Dr. Lecter is, instead, still portrayed as the cunning killer instead of the sympathetic criminal and hero in the story.

The longer the movie went, the more it strayed from the original story. Movie goers still cheer him on but not as whole-heartedly as I did when I read the book.

If they had kept truer to the book, Hannibal's motives would be much better understood and it would have had a happier ending, still leaving everything open for a sequel.

    Hannibal the Intellectual

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 31, 2001

This movie moved me in more ways then one. Lector is the most fascinating character i have ever watched. On one hand he is the most intellectual man you will ever meet, but on the other hand he is a cannibal. It makes you wonder how such a smart book smart person could also have the horriabl disease of cannibalism. And of course the gory parts just add to his sense of being. I found this one to be good, in the sense that Lectors character was more funny in his own way, and more close to Clarice in the sense of romantic infacuation. All in all i say this to be a great movie to sit down and watch and really pay attention to.

Not even true to the book...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 28, 2001

...this movie pretty thoroughly ignores Thomas Harris's book, which only passingly seems to be the source material for this "adaptation". The book focuses equally on Starling's growing maturity and disillusionment with the FBI and Lecter's freedom, which leaves him time to reflect on his life. The movie cuts the best human emotions and bonds (Mason Verger's sister, Lecter's sister, etc.) completely from the storyline, adopting, instead, only the most hideous, poorly conceived, and frequently comical aspects of Harris's novel. While Harris's manuscript paled in comparison to its two predecessors, it never really lost the thread of Hannibal as a character. Scott's Hannibal would sacrifice his own hand to keep from harming Starling--Harris's Hannibal would have never put himself into a situation where his own hand was at stake in the first place. If you feel compelled to watch this and have read the book, prepare yourself for intense disappointment--Hopkins Hannibal might as well be an entirely new character, as it's unrelated to his last performance. Julianne Moore capably fills Jodie Foster's shoes, but her talent is wasted here, as she really has no part.

    Stupid<Unbelievable<Boring<Thrillerless

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 27, 2001

As a fan of Silence of the lambs, I was expecting Hannibal to deliver much of what I loved about the original. This movie sucked, I do not understand how people rated this movie above a 1 star. I could go on for hours about how unbelievable and boring this film is. What made the first movie so good for me and am sure many others is the believability in the personality of Hannibal and even the pathological killer. The terror both these characters placed on the audience was both very believable and spine chilling scary. The one liners from the movie are still being said today, "It places the lotion on the skin or else it gets the hose again", "F..me, I'd F...me", or how about, "Oh senator love the suit". Hannibal does not evoke one bit of terror, Oh maybe being ripped apart by wild pigs,<NOT>or how about getting the top of your head surgically removed and having your brain eatin.<NOT> Like this is going to happen to the average person. Pathological killers exist in the world, and telling a story based on what one of these people may do to you if you are unfortunate to cross their paths is what scares the hell out of an audience. TWO EMPTY BEER CANS DOWN ON THIS FILM. My 15 month old daughter could have written and directed a scarier more belivable thriller.
