    Handspring treo 270

Think Twice!!! the concept is great, the company support needs some real work, I purchased my unit for close to $700.00 with chargers, car accessories etc.. on about june 18, 2002, I immediately had problems with speaker echo, and batter life, I need...ed to charge the phone several times per day, I requested a replacement, after the tech with handspring heard the echo, and recieved a second unit about 2 weeks later... that was frustrating, when the 2nd unit came the screen was not able to be activated, a problem with mfg parts I was told... WARNING! WARNING!WARNING! I RETURNED THAT UNIT AND AS OF SEPTEMBER 5TH 2002 AM STILL WAITING (AFTER 10 CALLS) FOR A REPLACMENT...Only purchase with a credit card so you retain you option for a chargeback... my advice... the technology is too new!, wait for the next generation... In summary: 1. Battery life stinks! 2. Screen is barely visible in the sunlight3. Internet access way to slow 4. speaker phone echo's so you hear your own voice5. customer support needs real work, even the techs seem frustrated with the company6. processor speed between functions is much too slow !!!!7. I'm so glad I kept my old cell phone, and my palm 515... wait for palm to make one !!!Also: note you can purchase a program called JOT, that allows you to write on the screen, Read more Less

    PERFECT, Except for....

By Tariq  Jun 25, 2002 | 7 out of 7 found this Handspring Treo 270 review helpful

Just got my new Treo 270 and love it. It does everything I need and more. However, for those of you who are considering buying one, please note the following:1. When buying from Handspring.com the Treo will come activated, but you will not know you...r number. You will have to call Voicestream or find out via caller ID2. Voicestream has a great wireless internet service, called iStream, where you pay by the MB instead of by the minute, but Treo can't handle that yet.... you must wait for the software upgrade 'soon' or sign up for a wireless ISP like Earthlink ($40 per month) plus have minutes deducted from your calling plan.... I'm waiting for the upgrade.3. The color display isn't that great.... my benchmark is the Sony Clie... perfect color. The Treo needs better color. I strongly recommend the color 270, but don't expect much. The thing works like a charm, I finally gave up carrying my cell phone and Visor, I can manage and call my contacts with ease, and I love the SMS service! It's still the best overall option on the market. Read more Less

    Handspring Treo 270

Palm-compatible device, with a color screen and tiny keyboard, combines phone and PDA functions.Handspring's Palm-based Treo 270 is a balanced combination of a PDA and a GSM and GPRS-ready wireless phone. (GPRS, General Packet Radio Service, is designed to work with GSM and has an average throughput of 56 kbps or slower, though the technology runs at up to 115 kbps.) Basically a color version of its pioneering Treo 180 sibling, the 270 uses Handspring's version of Palm OS 3.5 and sports a bright passive-matrix screen of 4000-plus colors--yet at 0.8 inches thick and 5.4 ounces, it is about the same size as its monochrome predecessor. (Note: Handspring will not make a color version of the Graffiti-based Treo 180g, because of the popularity of the keyboard-equipped model.) Read more

Treo 270's Still a Smartphone Worth Your Consideration

The Treo 270 set the bar by which other Palm OS smartphones have been compared. Though some have passed that milestone in different areas (more memory, memory expansion, faster processors, later versions of the operating system, etc.), as a whole, the Treo's 270 is still a good choice for those who want a decent Palm OS device with mobile phone capabilities that are easy to use.
