In the most obvious sense, the "~Halo" is a space station built in the shape of an enormous rotating wheel. As the wheel spins, it creates centripetal force that mimics gravity on its inner rim. An entire world exists inside this wheel, with huge developed structures and vast, open landscapes. But something else exists in the Halo as well - something mysterious and powerful. All that is really known is that a force of alien invaders is desperate to find it and they are leaving death and destruction in the wake of their search. This mystery of Halo must be solved and the aliens must be vanquished, before they find what they are looking for and destroy us all.

The action in Halo is squad-based. While gamers have lots of options when making decisions about the individual characters they will play, many missions are best accomplished through teamwork and certain multiplayer capabilities are supported with this in mind. The 3D engine's default view switches between first-person and third person, depending on the situation. Much of the action takes place in the wide open spaces inside the mammoth space station, with no level breaks or load times as the player moves from one place to another.

Some of the basic themes and plot points in Halo may be familiar to gamers who have played Marathon, Bungie's successful first-person shooter which was released in 1992 for the Macintosh platform. Among other elements, Marathon is known for intelligent level design and a deep, intriguing story. Though Halo should not be considered a sequel to Marathon, the two share common plot elements and have related back-stories. Initial development of Halo was done simultaneously for the Macintosh, the PC, and the Xbox. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

Halo isnt one of those games that comes along that often, it combines thrill, fun, and excitement into a little green box. Based 500 years in the future halo is more of a science fiction novel than a video game, you battle an evil alien race in a fig...ht for the existance of humanity. Everything from the graphics to the story line are out of this world, this game is what X-Box was made for; if you dont have this game you dont deserve to have X-Box, its a definate must have for anyone looking for an addicting 1st person shooter. Halo....The name you will be saying for years until Halo 2 arrives next year. This game is simply awesome. The intro of the game will make you push reset on the Xbox unit to just watch the opening intro movie again because it is that spectacular( I a...m not kidding). This game is that amazing. This is a must if you are planning to purchase an Xbox this November. The Graphics is the best I have ever seen in a first person shooter game. Honestly I do not even like FPS games but this game has change my mind so much that I am in love with FPS games now...especially Halo. The weapons and levels are awesome and huge. There is even a multiplayer option that puts you or 16 players against the computer or your friends. The replay Value will have you playing this game over and over again. You will even call in to work sick. You will miss sleep and if you do decide to go to work you will be thinking about getting home to play Halo. The framrate never drops. It is 60frames per second all the time even when there are about 20 different things going on at one time. The sound will make you think you are actually there. It really puts the player into the action and theme of the game. The controller works very well with the Xbox...This game is worth a $50 dollars purchased. This game will maybe if not be the Game of the year...watch out Metal Gear Solid:Sons of Liberty....Halo just stepped in and say Hello Halo Read more Less

    Microsoft - Halo review

There's nothing stunningly novel about Halo. It's just a really well conceived and executed first person shooter, albeit with tons of vehicle action and some excellent enemy AI. It has a beautifully crafted plot and an equally gorgeous aesthetic make-up. Hardened PC vets and Quake monsters like ourselves may find the gamepad control a bit of a struggle at first, though.
