    I bought this to replace a FUJI digital camera (which I will never buy again) and I love it! For $200, you can not beat the quality or features of this camera. And with the optional cradle, you can plug into a TV to see your pics without a computer o...r just hit a button to transfer. I was also impressed with the included software.     Pros: amazing pic resolution, many pic settings, a bargain!

    Cons: some may not care for the camera size

    about a month ago, i recieved the hp m407 as a gift. it worked out to my benefit that the camera was defective. i picked up the m417. this camera is wonderful! 5.2 mega pixels, 21x zoom [3 optical, 7 digital], 5 flash settings, 7 different camera mo...des [includes settings for moving objects and beach pictures, among others], multiple timer settings, the list goes on and on. one feature i LOVE- adaptive lighting. this feature ensures that you won't have overly dark pictures, and helps with taking more natural looking portraits [i.e., the subject in the foreground isn't overly bright, and the background isn't overly dark or blurry.] another neat addition to this camera- in playback mode, you can zoom in on a picture to make sure everything came out just right! transfering pictures from camera to computer are simple-plug a cable into the computer and your camera, and turn the camer on. that's it. also, for those of you that are into taking family pictures, there is a Read more Less

    Pros: Price

    Cons: Numerous Software and Hardware issues

    My answer would be HP employees. This camera is nothing but trouble. It takes mediocre photos, and has issues with its media card readers. The both optical and digital zoom photos are dark and grainy. If you want a good camera in this price range, bu...y a Canon A520 or Sony Cybershot. Read more Less

    camera broke for no reason

    Pros: easy to use, nice outdoor pictures

    Cons: breaks easily

    I got this camera as a christmas present. Worked well for about a year until the optical zoom lens completely broke on its own (only came out halfway) and now the camera wont work. I have never dropped this camera or anything! Why did it break after ...a year? Read more Less

    Pros: really easy to use, virtually no scratches

    Cons: noisy, battery life

    I got this camera for a birthday, and as a first digital camera it isn't bad. I turned the quality all the way down and can get 1,000 or so pictures. as for scratching, mine has a few but they are barely noticable. I got a carrying case for mine ...but I don't use it, I just shove it in my pocket. The downside is that it has a short battery life, I went rollerskating one evening and the batteries died in a short amount of time. Also, when this camera turns on and off, it makes a HUGE racket. this might not be true of all cameras of this type, maybe I did something to it but I can't think of what. Also when it zooms this is also a problem. It's a great camera, it suits my needs, I would definately buy it. It makes a good first digital camera. Read more Less

    Cons: Cannot take night shots

    The camera will not take accurate night shots. I had it for a year and used it frequently. It took very crisp shots, but now my close ups will not focus. My last HP also tired out after a year and a half. I do not recommend buying this brand again. I... am going with something else. It is an easy to use camera, but I want something that will last a bit longer and take the shots I want (night shots). Believe it or not, the flash was too bright on this camera. I adjusted some settings, but I had to edit almost all of my photos. I do not recommend this camera. Of course, it may be very inexpensive by now, so it may be a good first buy. Read more Less

    A Bargain

    Pros: great price, easy to use, long battery life

    Cons: goes into "sleep mode" too quickly

    I bought this to replace a fuji camera that had never worked. I am so happy I bought it! It is easy to use, and I didn't have to install anything before downloading the images. I bought a 256MB card, and it has been adequate. The batteries I have... in it now are the lithium photo batteries by energizer. They aren't rechargeable, just regular AA batteries. I have had the same batteries in the camera for a month now, and they are still good- and I use the camera every day! My husband's camera goes through batteries every 30-45 minutes.
