This compilation certainly boasts many of the big names of flamenco guitar, from the idolized Manolo Sanlucar to Andres Batista and Rafael Canzinares and Paco de Lucia. Certainly, as a sampler, it brings in the weightiest talents, and gives fullon exposure to hardcore flamenco playing, whether on the traditional “Soleares Populares" to “Entre Dos Aguuas," de Lucia's surprising ‘70s hit. If anything, there's a danger this can be an overload of talent, and a surfeit of the ecstatic moments called duende. There's never anything to fault in the performances from anyone, and the moments when the jaw drops at the technique and imagination soon become countless. If you want an introduction to flamenco guitar, this is the place to begin.
