Pro Reviews: Greatest Hits
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews The only Paula Abdul album most listeners will need, Greatest Hits gathers almost all the singles from her first three albums in one place. The 16 tracks here include an amazing run of eight consecutive Top Ten hits, six of which reached number one, over a span of approximately three years (before more soulful, urban sounds began to conquer Abdul's audience). In most cases, the versions included are the 7" single edits, which often differed from the album cuts and are hence quite nice to have collected. The only questionable choice is that the Top 20 single "Will You Marry Me?" was left off in favor of an unnecessary "Megamix Medley," but it's hard to imagine most fans finding this anything more than a minor flaw. The songs still sound as slick and hyper-produced as ever, but they're also catchy and well-constructed, and it's no surprise they were hits in their era (which, nostalgia buffs will find, they evoke very well). All in all, a nicely executed package. - Steve Huey, All Music Guide |

Pros: The whole album!...
Cons: ... except the unneeded Megamix Medley.
If somebody still contradicts Paula Abdul's position as one of the judges of the most illustrious pop music - talent competition on this planet, that person should donate some time for this greatest hits collection, which definitely proves that she's talented. In fact, at one point she was the biggest pop music star in entertainment industry and the whopping six #1 -singles & another set of hit songs included in this collection clearly illustrate it.
This collection is a must-have for all listeners of Paula Abdul because it contains the brilliant single remixes which sometimes differ significantly from the album versions; some of them, especially the single edits for the terrific "Opposites Attract" and "Forever Your Girl", one my favourite songs of all time, are even better than the original versions.
The only flaw in this collection is the Megamix Medley, which is a bit futile, especially because of the fact that one of her singles (Will You Marry Me?) was left out in favor of the almost nine and half minutes long medley mix, which gets quite tiresome after a few minutes of listening.
Nevertheless, this a wonderful collection of all the most hyper-produced 80's/90's pop tunes ever by Paula Abdul and that's a good thing. The lyrics are rather superficial at times but it doesn't matter because these hit songs are just too irresistible; at least it's a great collection of eminently catchy dance-pop -tunes. ...
