Listen to big hair bands also known as hair metal such as Twisted Sister, Guns N' Roses, WASP, or Motley Crue. Or at least listen to Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, or Slayer. Those are musically talented. -

Users found this Greatest Hits review helpful Yes, everyday after school my friends and I would run home, put on a NKOTB tape (very few CDs then) and dance and sing to all their songs. My childhood and early adolescence is defined by them, and they represent to me the happiest and most innocent time in my life. Joey (my fave), Jordan, Jon, Donnie, and Danny, are classics and made million of girls now, who are now in their twenties, fall in love. They are the original and best boy band. They were not the Backstreet Boys/N'Sync of the 80's, they are the New Kids of the Block of today! I miss you, guys, thanks for all the joy you brought to me when I was a kid. ...

| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews If Greatest Hits doesn't seem as fun as it should be, that's because the New Kids on the Block's material has dated, even though it, in many ways, set the template for the teen pop of the late '90s/early 2000s. Max Martin used Maurice Starr's formula, but he writes better songs -- only "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)" and "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" stand the test of time as good pop singles, but the rest are pretty much triumphs of recording and the form. Also, the sequencing doesn't play to their strengths, failing to gain much momentum as it plays. This still is recommended as the first pick, since it does have all of NKOTB's hits on one disc, but it's still sort of a shock that this doesn't play as trashy fun, the way it does in memory -- or the way Milli Vanilli's music now does. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide |
