Pro Reviews: Greatest Hits

  • All Music Guide

As with most things involving seminal rock trio Shockabilly, the title of their Greatest Hits is not what it might seem. For starters, this 1983 release is only an EP, and while it does contain selections from their preceding albums --The Dawn of Shockabilly and Earth Vs. Shockabilly-- it is notable mainly for the four live tracks that make up the bulk of the six-song record. In classic Shockabilly fashion, drummer David Licht, bassist Kramer, and guitarist Eugene Chadbourne destroy the Doors' "People Are Strange" and Roger Miller's "Burma Shave," then save time to rumble through two of their own weirdly angular compositions. A brief but essential bit of Shockabilly madness.
