    BRROKS AND DUNN top the charts like a cowboy hat!

    Pros: HEY you are LUCKY for listening!

    Cons: NO BAD things to say...It's like a chicken fried JACKPOT of songs!

    Go ahead try to name a great parntership that have made so many musical HITS as these two gentleman. TATE & O'NEAL, SANDLER AND YOUNG, DEAN & JERRY, FLATT AND STUBBS, GEORGE AND THE TAMMY SHOW, NEIL SEDAKA AND FRIENDS...see, even everyone up ther...e probably doesn't even compare or come close to making the hit sounds that BROOKS AND DUNN have made. Just think about it: every since country rock videos were still being done it was like, uh I need some help with this camera , how do you work it, are we getting the video done correctly oh who cares its only on the country channel (this is not a SLAM against country, just the truth about the time we were living in in about i don't know 1984 or something like that) but now its like WHOA. Country is the KING, and I say WE are a better country because of that reason! So let's take our hats off to brooks and d. They have made such excellent hits as TIME TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH, I ROPED A STEER IN MY BEER, FANCY PAJAMAS and the loveabley unforgetful YOU BROKE MY HEART (NOW YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A PARADE ABOUT IT). Just look at this cd when you buy it -- there's two of them -- CDs, not brroks and dunn! I mean there are two cds because there are so many hits. And once you start listening it will be like, MAN i can't believe it. Its THAT Good! (BE kind of adviced, though. In the CD booklet they never tell you which one is Brroks and which one is Dunn.     Canny country-rock hits and convincing ballads

    This dynamic duo's second volume of hits features a truly generous seventeen tracks, including a trio of new cuts that will entice fans that already have all the albums. The song list picks up in 1998, right where their first hits collection left... off, and carries through to 2004. Though their commercial fortunes waned slightly in the middle of this period, the cherry-picking of hits evens things out nicely.The balance of Ronnie Dunn's deep-well vocals and Kix Brooks' exuberant guitar playing and backup singing has kept this pair on the charts throughout their career, and this collection shows off why. This surely isn't your grandfather's country music - it's heavily influenced by Nashville's pop and rock crossover thumping drums and ringing electric guitars, but as modern country, it's about as good as it gets - and that's good!A few of the slower tunes, like the string-laden "The Long Goodbye," frame their remorse with soft-focus mellow-rock production, but Dunn's soulful ballad singing is still exquisite. The tight harmonies of "I Can't Get Over You" strain with emotional agony, and the stark solo vocal of "A Man This Lonely" is gripping. Even better is the old-school torch ballad, "I'll Never Forgive My Heart," with piano, fiddle and weeping steel, and an incredible cover of Roger Miller's "Husbands and Wives."As fine as this duo takes it down-tempo, it's mid-tempo and upbeat songs like "How Long Gone," "You Can't Take the Honky Tonk Out of the Girl," and the self-penned "Only in America" whose hooks will stick in your head for days. These songs exemplify the brilliant marriage of country sentiment with power-pop production - the guitars of "Only in America" combine a wicked electric riff with strumming acoustics to induce foot-tapping as the chorus has you singing along. Of the three new tracks, "A Man This Lonely" is the most essential addition to the duo's canon - a beautifully realized Dunn-sung ballad. The opening "That's What It's All About" is sure to appeal to young parents with its in-the-moment self-realization, and the Kix Brooks-sung "Independent Trucker" is a good slice of honky-tonk road music. All three are nice additions for fans and a bonus for those just getting familiar via this hits collection. Read more Less

    Pros: Any Brooks and Dunn music is great

    Cons: Just a couple tunes missing

    Excellent greatest hits collection, but if you are a fan of the 'Tight Rope' CD hang on to your copy, if it ever goes out of print those songs will be hard to find. The singles from that CD are missing, apparantly because it is the worse sell...ing Brooks and Dunn album (didn't even make it gold). Makes you wonder if it was the duos choice to forget those tunes for this collection or if it was Arista's decision. That album WAS made however and the singles from it should be there. Those include the cover of John Waites 'Missing You', the honky-tonkin 'Beer Thirty' and the great ballad 'You'll Always Be Loved By Me'.As for the tunes that are there, they include all the recent singles, 3 new tunes and instead of the 'Tight Rope' singles, 2 older songs that didn't make the first GH collection. And for an extra bonus buy it at Wal-mart and get 3 live tracks. Overall a must have for your country music collection. Read more Less
