    Awesome

Pros: an oldie but everlasting goodie

    Cons: retro's not for everyone

You might think this is dated but that is the inherent quality of this CD. Remember putting on the vinyl and seranading your girlfriend ... "She Used Ta Be My Girl" - man, some things don't get better than that!

When the O'Jays left Columbia for EMI, the company promptly issued this greatest-hits package, although they opted to put fewer tracks on it than on the 1978 Collector's Items. So, the logical question would be, why would anyone want it? Probably because they've made Collector's Items extremely difficult to locate, and also because this mid-'80s release had better mastering of such seminal O'Jays items as "Love Train" and "For the Love of Money." While it has gaping holes as a single-disc anthology, this release provides an acceptable overview of the group's Epic/Philadelphia International/TSOP material.

In their prime, the O'Jays' recordings epitomized the Philly soul sound: smooth, rich harmonies backed by elaborate arrangements, lush strings, and a touch of contemporary funk. They worked extensively with the legendary... Read more
