    Pros: The songs and the voice

    Helen Reddy had a remarkable career in the 70's. She was a woman in her thirties (unheard of today) who crafted pop tunes with her distinctive voice and empathy of interpretation. I loved her as a child and still marvel at the mystery of those sl...ightly cracked ladies she sang so lovingly of. Bless her. Favorites included are: "I don't know how to love him," "Leave me alone" (Ruby red dress)," "Angie baby," "Ain't no way to treat a lady," and the definitive recording of "Somewhere in the night" Read more Less

    "in sizes too big to ignore..."This is Helen's best singles, in no particular order. the songs had a campy flair - like Cher's solo work, but with Chapin-esque twists of wierdness. "angie baby" and "delta dawn" are the highlights of those 'special' ...girl songs. "Top of the World" , "that aint no way", & "I dont know how" are also AOR hits of the 70s. The music is up to par with the best recordings of any '70's female solo artist. (OK - I know she's not a Janis Ian or a Carol King or Carly Simon, but she's the best "second tier" female musician of the 70s) Read more Less
