Pro Reviews: Great Gospel Songs

  • All Music Guide

Although he had numerous country hits of his own in the 80's, singer Ronnie McDowell has never been able to shake his initial guise as an Elvis impersonator, the man who wrote "The King Is Gone," and provided the vocals for the 1979 TV movie Elvis. With that in mind, guess who this collection of Great Gospel Songs sounds like? Nothing original here, just versions of "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Peace in the Valley" as if Elvis were singing them. Pass on this disc and instead check out the Best of Ronnie McDowell on Curb.
