Good sample of Elvis country stuff
Elvis did so many great country recordings, there would be no way to give most of it on a single CD. RCA did a decent job of selecting these, though I disagree with a few. As, the alternate takes and mixes are good recordings and good for collectors, but the originals would usually be better for those who don't have them already. I like the original "Guitar Man" much better. Maybe combine this CD with a couple of his original albums such as "Promised Land," "Elvis Country," or "Good Times." And RCA has out a more recent 2-CD set called "Elvis: The Country Collection" that gives a few more songs and doesn't cost much more (though I haven't heard it). But at any rate, this is good as a one-CD collection of Elvis's country songs.

For those of us chart fanatics, this CD has come in very handy. In 1981, a Felton Jarvis remix of "Guitar Man" hit #28 on the Hot 100. When this CD was issued, it was next to impossible to find. The rest of the CD is actually mostly superior to this remix. Elvis was as home with country as with any other format he tried. A great overview with a few alternate takes to lure in the collector.
