    Good sample of Elvis country stuff

    Elvis did so many great country recordings, there would be no way to give most of it on a single CD. RCA did a decent job of selecting these, though I disagree with a few. As, the alternate takes and mixes are good recordings and good for collectors,... but the originals would usually be better for those who don't have them already. I like the original "Guitar Man" much better. Maybe combine this CD with a couple of his original albums such as "Promised Land," "Elvis Country," or "Good Times." And RCA has out a more recent 2-CD set called "Elvis: The Country Collection" that gives a few more songs and doesn't cost much more (though I haven't heard it). But at any rate, this is good as a one-CD collection of Elvis's country songs. Read more Less

    Great Country Songs compiles 24 of the finest country songs Elvis Presley recorded between 1955 and 1976, from "I Forgot to Remember to Forget" to "Guitar Man." Many familiar performances are available, as are five previously unreleased tracks designed to bait collectors, and the collection does a good job of establishing Elvis' credentials as a country singer, even if it isn't as effective as the blues collection, Reconsider Baby.
