hello. this CD met and exceded my expectations. i didn't really know anything by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, but i thought i'd like her. i was right. she's great. on at least 5 of the tracks, it's only her singing and playing guitar. ...that is great. there are a few tracks featuring a big band, and those are alright--they're pretty rockin' for the early/mid-40's. the rest of the tracks feature Tharpe's singing, guitar playing, and a small band (just piano, bass, and drums). in my opinion, that's the perfect setting for Tharpe. the music, as you might have guessed, is a combination of gospel, blues, and jazz. not too much of any of them. just a great combination. it almost gives me chills to listen to such a great singer/guitarist. that's all.
