Director Martin Scorsese just continuously makes one masterpiece after another, only Goodfellas tops them all. An excellent cast including Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci, Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco and Paul Sorvino make this movie so compelling and convin...cing that it deserved every award it won. Goodfellas takes us deep into the life and formation of the mafia, telling the story of Brooklyn teen Henry Hill (Ray Liotta). Henry is the most well known kid in town, so much so that the mafia are getting him to do favours for them full time. He is then recruited by mafia boss Paulie Cicero (Paul Sorvino) and is introduced to Jimmy Conway (Robert DeNiro) and hot headed wise guy Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci). What follows is a story of violence, betrayal, drugs and tragedy as Henry learns the consequences of being in the mafia family.Another great movie about the mafia thats really worth taking a look at if your a fan of The Godfather trilogy. Goodfellas is way better than The Godfather II,III, scarface, and many if not all mafia movies.The Godfather and the sequels were good, but they were a drama about a famly who just happened to be in the mafia, this movie is completly about how the ma...fia works.I have scarface great action flick, but people remember this film most because of al pacino accent, I mean that is a stupid reason for anyone to love a movie or anyone for that matter. Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas" is simply the finest gangster film ever made...the "Gone With The Wind" of mob movies!The acting, writing, direction, photography and soundtrack are so good, it's at times hard to judge this movie sanely.....Why Warner ...Brothers gave the intial DVD release such slipshod treatment is anyone's guess...(the disc has to flipped over!!!!!)What is sorely needed is a new special DVD issue with the entire film on one side, director's commentary, deleted scenes, interviews etc etc....While we're on the subject, Atalntic Records might considering reissuing the soundtrack, since the initial issue in 1990 left off the Ronnettes, Vito and the Salutations, the Stones, George Harrison, Iggy Pop and (yes! Great movie, but don't waste your money

If you want to buy it, get the VHS. I say this because one half of the movie is on one side and the rest is on the other. So basically if you buy the DVD, you have to flip it over mid way through the movie. :(

Do I Really Need To Say Anything?

Pros: Dynomite!

I'd like to say, Ray Liotta was awesome in this film, Robert DeNiro is always in character and Joe Pesci is in! Nobody's out of character. I like the fact that Martin Scorese changed Paul Sorvino's character because in real life, he was v...iolent. And I tell ya, if he kept that image the same in the film, he would've taken away Tommy's whole image and the film really loses a bit much. I was a bit upset that Michael Imperioli's character "Spyder" got shot for no reason, all because he was defending himself. That really made me mad, Michael Imperioli is one of my favorite actors. U make sure an know that when he bacl overt ther he go add this one as soon as he remember cos this one dam ...good movei. They take u theogh history of mafia - and in the rihgt order to. Vinny get confusd on that Gofdather movies - those going all over the place - still those bettr than this movie, but at least on this u always know where u are. Perhaps the greatest crime movie of all time

I don;t know if I'd say Goodfellas is THE GREATEST mafia movie of all time. Godfather is extremely good too. And it has better music. No one listens to the Goodfellas soundtrack. Goodfellas didn't instantly MAKE stars of the entire cast. Some..., perhaps. But Godfather... everyone that was a major charecter walked away as a bona-fide star. But... Other than the Goodfellas/Godfather arguement... certainly it is a great movie. What does make Goodfellas a movie that could perhaps be better than the Godfather is that the Corleone family exists only in a book. But this... this is based on a TRUE STORY. It really happened. And, the main character is (so far) still alive to enjoy seeing the story on DVD. Even if many of the people he knew that were also featured aren't. (if they were, he'd likely be dead by now) The movie is very realistic and delves into the ugly truths of the Mafia quite nicely. It makes the lifestyle seems almost glamorous. But also strangly sickening and repulsive. All at the same time. And it shows how the scourge of drugs destroyed many a mafioso as well as many a dealer and user. As well as the paranoia that quicky came to pass and the speed and ease as which a person's life or death could be decided. Plus, how loyalty goes up much more so than it goes down. This is a movie that no movie collection is complete without. Just be sure to get the version that is completely on a single side. Having to flip the movie at midpoint is only good if you need a break to make more popcorn. Read more Less
