Pro Reviews: Good Dope...Good Fun

  • All Music Guide

As bootlegs go, Good Dope...Good Fun is virtually flawless -- compiling 16 tracks originally spread across rare singles, compilations, and flexi-discs, it's a boon for Spiritualized collectors, complete with excellent direct-from-digital sound that belies its dubious legality. (The cheap packaging and misspelled song titles are another story, mind you.) The real score here is the first six tracks, culled from the 1993 ~Glastonbury Festival and originally divided among the three-part Let It Flow single -- rivaling the earlier Fucked Up Inside live album for grandiose intensity, the performance serves as the blueprint for virtually every Spiritualized show to follow, complete with the kaleidoscopic instrumental "Clear Rush," a resurrected Spacemen 3 song (in this case "Things Will Never Be the Same"), and "Take Your Time," the climax and inevitable highlight of each set.
