    Yes, they topped "Determination"

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 11, 2004

    Pros: Pros: Um...WOW

    Cons: Cons: Um...Nothing!

I really liked God Forid's last offering "Determination" a lot and couldn't wait for their next record as I felt it would be even better. It Is! "Gone Forever" nails what was hinted at on "Determination"
. They ha...ve wisely opted to work on their own style as opposed to trying to incorporate others, and it has paid off. The production is much better, the performances and songs are even stronger, and while on the last record there were some skippable songs, this one is solid all the way through. On "Determination" you could tell vocalist Byron's rich voice had more range than we were hearing, but on this one he shows how easily he can go from screaming to a strong singing voice without losing any punch (take notes, emo boys). Corey Pierce's drumming is even more fierce, and his feet FLY. Standout tracks are "Force Fed", "Anti-hero", and "Washed Out World" but really, there isn't a weak tune on here. If you like Euro-Thrash you should be all over this like a cheap suit. Read more Less

    Best band of '04!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 28, 2004

    Pros: Great

    Cons: None

God Forbid are brilliant. This is a must-have for fans of Slayer, Killswitch Engage, Exodus, In Flames, Nevermore or even Opeth. God Forbid combine beautiful melodies with crunching thrash riffing for a sheer awesome experience!

Gone Forever is the heavily anticipated follow up to God Forbid's 2001 CD Determination. Since the release of that album, their Century Media debut, they moved up the ladder from being an opening act on several package tours to scoring a spot on the MTV Headbangers' Ball tour (with likeminded bands Shadows Fall and Lamb of God) and finally emerging as headliners in their own right. They come out with their guns blazing on this album, as opener "Forcefed" throws everything they've got at the listener: racing Swedish deathmetal riffs, tightly synchronized dualguitar leads a la Carcass' Heartwork, "chuggachugga" hardcore breakdowns, and a bloodletting of harsh, screaming vocals. It is an impressive, punishing song that comes at you from about five different directions. They proceed to do the same thing eight more times on the album, with only the brief quiet intros on "Precious Lie" and "Judge the Blood" offering any reprieve. Apart from these moments, the intensity never lets down, alth...ough the melodic vocal refrains on "Better Days" and "Precious Lie" add some welcome contrast (and unlike many hardcoremetal bands who try to incorporate clean vocals, God Forbid can actually sing). There is a lot to digest on this album, and the relentless attack, combined with the chiseled production and the music's unyielding harshness, make for a grueling listen the first few times through. In fact, even though it's only about 40 minutes, the album is a song or two longer than it needs to be. God Forbid are at the forefront of the new wave of American hardcoremetal circa 2004, but some of us still find it easier to respect the band's talent and digest the songs a few at a time as opposed to sticking around for a full album's worth of punishment. - William York, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

God Forbid

God Forbid forges the gritting, teeth-baring bile of American death metal together with the melodic overtones of the so-called "New Wave of Swedish Death Metal" promulgated by bands like In Flames, Arch Enemy, and the late, lamented, and legendary At the Gates. Equal parts Pantera, Hatebreed, and early Sepultura, the central New Jersey based band have carved out a name ... Read more
