Nintendo invites classic console-style role-playing gamers to embark on a new adventure in Golden Sun, the first title in a planned series of releases for the Game Boy Advance. Detailed characters make their way through countless screens of action and discovery, harnessing the powers of the four elements and crafting new possibilities through spells, psychic talents, and the forgotten art of alchemy. The heroes travel the large game world on a quest to prevent rival sorcerers from unleashing a dangerous power on the peaceful land.

Players guide their characters from a high perspective that looks down on each scene from the front. Turn-based battles are seen from ground level for a closer view of each combatant. Emotive animations and swirling spell effects bring combat to life. Throughout the journey, a variety of elusive Djinn familiars may be collected, which can be assigned to characters to augment their power. In addition to boss battles and random encounters, gameplay involves some cunning puzzle-solving, as characters often must manipulate the environment to gain access to new areas. ~ T.J. The graphics are pretty good for the Gameboy Advance and the characters are addictive. The Elemental Djinn are nice additions to battles, and are very original... I loved the music, which usually fit the mood of the game. The boss battles are never t...oo hard or too easy, which is a great challenge to the player. There are tons of puzzles to the game that adds to the fun.The controls are pretty good. Though, it was kind of annoying how the menu button can be opened by pressing the "A" button. You use it to talk to people and search items, too. Of course, it won't be too anoying once you get a certain ability that allows you to see which pots and barrels have something in it or not.One bad thing was that the game was too short. But what can you expect from a handheld portable system? Not too many games on the Gameboy systems are ever too long. Another was that the game lacked alot of eomance in it... Owing to the fact that the main character, Isaac, doesn't say anything other than "Yes" or "No."All in all, you should really buy this game. It is, in my opinion, one of the best Gameboy Advance games out there. I can't think of a better way to spend money on a Gameboy Advance game. Read more Less

This game is awesome. There are many of the slight details that remind me of the FF series, but with an infuriatingly addicting style of magic. The gameplay is great, with multiple angles in battle, good animation, and tons of options available at an...y given time. One of the only disadvantages to this game at all is that there are so many screens to view, it is really easy to forget which button brings up which screen. It seems like the GBA needs about two more buttons to really be able to accommodate this game.Other than that, the magic system involves what basically amount to Pokemon of four basic types that augment your abilities as a player. And like Pokemon, the different types affect each other with bonuses and weaknesses. Unlike Pokemon, you can combine numbers and types of classes to affect your player and the available magic. Just imagine the junction system from FF8 combined with Chrono-Cross and the levels, and you've got a good idea of how magic functions in the Golden Sun universe.Toss these things in with riddles, puzzles, and the hunt to collect the little "not-Pokemon" elements, and you've got a strong RPG with smooth animation, good graphics, and seemingly endless entertaining capability. This is the game to get your little brother this Christmas.
