Great Breakout CD for Adams
Pros: Very Nice Alt Country CD
Cons: Nothing specific
A great CD for adams, as it was his first real mainstream CD since he went solo. I think anyone would easily enjoy this original masterpeice.

i have to say this is one of the best releases i've heard in a while. his style is so much more advanced than even the Boss. if you really want to hear some great stuff by ryan adams, try The Pinkhearts, too.

I had heard New York, New York and had seen Ryan on a couple of music shows. (one was with willie nelson -- which i liked a lot). I had also read a lot about him on-line. After listening to "Gold" I must say he is a lot of my favorite artists wrapped into one. Petty, Bruce, Dylan, Stones, Who, Zeppelin. Very good songwriter. Not all at once, but at some point on this album, he represents them all. AND to find out he covered the Dead's Wharf Rat is icing on the cake.

I think this album is spectacular. I nearly cried the first time I heard Sylvia Plath. There are no weka tracks on this album, but there are several wonderful songs such as Answering Bell, Firecracker, and of course New York, New York. Eventhough I think it is not as good as anything he did with Whiskeytown, Go out and buy Strangers Almanac today if you do not already own it, I still believe it is one of the best albums of 2001.

ryan adams is a genius. all of his songs are great. ive had the album for around 5 months and im not tired of it yet. the songs are brilliantly written and are catchy in their own way. listen for "la ciegna just smiled" and "nobody girl" which are my favorites.
