A fun movie that's aimed at the LDS audience.
, April 5, 2002Reviewer: mpetrie21 - See all mpetrie21's reviewsAs a returned missionary, I was scared to see this movie because I didn't know if the mission experience was going to be accurately portrayed. But was I wrong! Sure this is no academy award quality film, but it's an overall fun movie to watch, especially if you're a member of the LDS church and a returned missionary. The film does get preachy at times and does get a little overdramatic, but I still loved the characters and the well-done acting by the cast. The pranks that missionaries do and the jokes they crack are truly part of a missionary's experience. The situations are clever and the subtle comments made between characters are bound to make you chuckle. Not all of what takes place in the movie actually occurs on the mission, but it does give the viewer an idea of what it would be like. I loved the film despite its flaws and would recommend it to anyone who's willing to listen to a few testimonies and see a few tears. ... -
Good movie, horrible DVD
, December 3, 2001Reviewer: Team Captain? - See all Team Captain?'s reviewsLoved the movie, a few faults here and there, but mostly loved it. The DVD on the other hand, is terrible. It appears they tried to squash both the widescreen and full-screen versions on one side of the DVD, and the quality suffers immensly. Everything from the low bit rate to the brown streaky artifacts in the shadows makes this an unacceptable purchase if you care about these things. You may be better off with the VHS. The music video on the DVD looks sharper and higher resolution than the movie itself. Maybe Excell will do better next time. ...
