Glory Road - originally available on vinyl with a second 'free' record "For Gillan Fans Only." It was a great find!This is the line up that rock history will later define as a classic, Ian Gillan -vocals, John McCoy - bass, Bernie Torme - guitar, Co...lin Towns - keyboards (and flute) and Mick Underwood - drums.Gillan shows his undoubted vocal range and excercises his talent for making good, hard rocking sounds from a good, hard rocking band. Torme slides, picks and distorts his way through the album defining his own unique style with his many solos but also in complete harmony with Gillan's vocals and Towns' almost lyrical keyboards. Towns adds a depth to the music that few other 'metal' bands even attempt to find. Underwood is an accomplished drummer who keeps the pace with perception and eloquence and forms an unlikely yet effective rythm section with the thumping bass of the persistent McCoy.The album is fast and frenzied and the pace is relentless throughout, until 'If you believe me' which shows a willingness from Gillan to try a differing style and the result is a track that could be the downfall of your 'repeat button'. This will be your track of the album, so turn down the lights, buy a bottle of scotch, finish with your girlfriend and whack up that bass!'For Gillan Fans only' (billed as bonus tracks on the CD) is a chance to see the boys at their relaxed best. These tracks are those that did not make it into the original album. (Though you can't help but ask yourself "Why?".
