Mariah's skeleton in the closet. Unfortunately.
Pros: "Want You" & a few other moments.
Cons: Pretty much the rest.
I love Mariah Carey's music and no matter how hard I tried to like this album, I just couldn't. Glitter is a complete disaster, uninspired, rushed and annoying.
"Want You" is the only song in Glitter I really like to listen to (it's the only song they've actually managed to capture the real 80's feeling into and it could be one of her best songs) and "Twister" is also a nice one (only about 2:26 long, though)...
But the rest of the album is filled with completely trifling ballads and terrible dance cuts, including "Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica)", perhaps one of the worst songs ever made and the laughable "Didn't Mean to Turn You on" which tries to emulate the mid-80's synth-funk atmosphere but fails miserably. The non-remix version of "Loverboy" is a mediocre single cut but the one with the ludicrous rap sections is extremely annoying. The atrocious cover version of "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" made my ears bleed and "If We" is another embarrassing moment for this disastrous album.
If you're a die-hard fan of Miss Carey... Try it because you'll probably do it anyway but the other audiences, avoid this.Was this review helpful? Yes - Nomariah-glitter

If you like songs like Heartbreaker and My all, you will love this album.
Is has one of Mariah best ballads.(Never too far,Twister)and great dance songs.
I dont like too much Dont stop, because it looks more like Mystical feat. Mariah Carey.

I am a major fan of MC & like the album; however, there are certian parts that consist of too much hip-hop. A little here/there is okay, (like in the song "Honey" from "Butterfly"), but there is too much like in "Don't Stop", it takes away from the beauty & clarity of the song. Fans listen to Mariah to get away from that & enjoy her magnificant beatiful voice. Aside from the few songs that have the annoying HH overtones, the rest of the CD is pretty cool. I like how MC has brought back the old disco tunes & has added a little modern spice creating really smooth vibes that are pretty kicken (until the hip-hop ooh's & ahh's start up again). Mariah, you have such an Angelic voice & are sooooo talented, but lately your music needs to lighten up on the HH so we can hear your beautiful voice again. A thumbs up to the ballads on this CD, they're awesome. It is unfortunate that Glitter had to simmer in sales. A lot of it had to do with the release date being September 11. I mean who really wanted to go out & buy CD's during the time of such a sad & tragic event. Even myself, a true MC fan, bought the CD 3 weeks after it's release. I think from the get go Glitter didn't have chance because it received so much bad press before it was even completed. Anyway, I am very happy to hear that Mariah has signed to a new record label & I cannot wait until her next CD. Mariah is such a hard worker & has a big heart & her next album deserves to be a success.

I used to be a big fan of Mariah Carey but now her music has now declined to nothing but disposable dreck that is so forgettable. To me Butterfly was her last good album.
Since her hip hop rap direction her sound has gone downhill and her lyrics have actually become more childish.
Remember I Don't Wanna Cry, Vision Of Love, and Music Box. Why can't she do music like she once could do in 1990 again. She was far more mature and not bitchy and stupid that she is now?

I Really Used To Love Mariah...Her voice Changed A Lot. I`ve Seen Her Movie, And Ohhhh My God That Was Terrible She Couldn`t Act. I Really Want Her Old Voice Like "Without You". Celine Can Still Sing...Maybe She Really Need A Man To Her Life 4ever. Her Voice Is So Very Tired Right Now...I Want Your Voice Back Again Mariah...She Sing High And Suddenly Low...I Dont Like That...But Don`t Worry, We Are Going To Suport Ya Again If You Want To Bring Back Your Old Voice Again =)

I am a huge MC fan & anything she does musically I will appreciate. I still don't understand why this CD flopped so bad. Unfortunately, I think some of it had to do with simply - bad timing. First, it was released the day of Sept. 11 during the most tragic event that this country & the world has faced in decades. As our country & the world was mourning - the release of this CD was the furthest from anybody's mind and for a long time after.... In fact, I was planning on getting the CD that day & didn't end up getting it until 3 weeks later. In addition, MC was also healing from her own personal problems & the media was no help in this process as they continued to blow the whole thing out of proportion. Furthermore, the critics started to diss "Glitter" even before the movie & CD was completed. Although, I must admit I miss the older stuff from Mariah. I rate this CD as a B - it's not bad; however, it's not outstanding like her older stuff. It's good, but not outstanding. The ballads are beautiful - as always; however, the hip-hop/rap is a little to much at times (almost annoying). I would like the songs much better if some of the hip-hop was out. Not that I have anything against hip-hop, but it just doesn't jive with Mariah. It takes away from the soft whispel beauty in her music. A little bit here & there is okay (like in "Honey") - but overused on this CD. I still like the CD. I like how she brought back the old dance grooves & added a more modern sound to it. I just hope she brings back her old sound when she finds her new label. By the way - I think V. Records totally screwed her over. They should have considered all the factors involved.
In conclusion, I still love Mariah, her Angelic voice, & she is a true artist. Mariah hold your head high. I look forward to your next CD.Was this review helpful? Yes - No
