Her name is Lisa Gerrard and she's the greatest thing to happen to film scores since John Williams. Her themes and melodies will haunt you. Before "Gladiator" she scored "The Insider" also with Russell Crowe. Believe it or not, both film scores are equally as good as anything Williams, Hermann, Steiner, or Horner have ever done. Run, don't walk, to the store and find out for yourself why I say that this Lisa Gerrard is the best thing to happen to film scores in a long time. Great!! A+++++ Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed!!

This is music at its best! It lifts the film up among the stars. The best example is the scene where Maximus finds his murdered wife and son (Sorrow). Lisa Gerrard's voice is haunting and you can really feel Maximus' grief. Then there's Now we are free. It's one of my favorite songs of all time. It's so full of hope! It therapeutic to listen to it. It always fills me with bliss. And for all of you who love this soundtrack: There is a second album out with more music from Gladiator including the tune where Maximus races to get to his wife and son. And with some dialogue from the film.

When I saw the film in theatres, it became my favourite. I then bought the DVD when it came to DVD and watched it over and over. When I saw this in the theatre, there was one element of greatness I missed, the score. Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard combine their skills as composers and come up with an amazing score. I the n bought the CD. It remains my favourite album, even after Limp Bizkit and Blink-182.

When I saw the preview, I knew that this movie will be one of the best (how many oscar did they win? 6? 7?). When I actually got a chance to see the movie (in the theatres), I was amazed at the story and the costumes and the little stuff but right from the first battle scene between, the music was what caught my attention.
The CD is excellent. Hans Zimmer and Lisas Gerrard captured the Roman culture, the best tracks is #3 (The Battle) and #13 (Barbarian Horde). Both tracks captures the "honour and pride" of a soldier.
It's an amazing CD, if you love the movie, you'll love the cd. Now, if only I could write music as good as this.

When Gladiator first came out, I figured it was another macho movie for fighting freaks, but I was so wrong. It is a wonderful movie, and the music is absolutly breathtaking. I just got the soundtrack less than a week ago and it hasn't left my stereo since. I can't seem to get over the emotion the music portrays. I especially like the theme that is first heard in the second half of "Earth", that (if my memeory serves me correctly, I could be wrong) is playing when Maximus is praying for his family in the beginning. I recomend this album for anyone, I can't see how someone couldn't like it.

Best Recent Orchestral Soundtrack

I love this movie and the music that comes from it. This CD is the best ochestral soundtrack recording that I have heard in a long time. As much as I hate to admit it, this is even better than the recent Star Wars Episode I soundtrack; the music just has more emotional appeal (IMHO).
"The Battle" is my favorite track. It strongly reminds me of "Mars" from Holst's "The Planets." What makes that so neat is that Mars was the god of war in Roman mythology - Perfect for a movie about a Roman General-turned-Gladiator. In all that I have read about this music, I have not heard anyone else make that connection.

The score completely blew me away! Lisa Gerrard's voice is haunting, mellow, sad, joyful, and stirs emotions which propel the love of the magnificent epic that is Gladiator.

As for Hans Zimmer, he has outdone himself as this is one score that completely compliments the movie. When you hear the battle scores ("The Battle", "The Barbarian Horde"), you are transported back in time. This is a soundtrack for the ages.
