Pros: lets you understand a drug addicts life from their & close friends point of view

My favorite movie of all time. It touches my heart because I can see myself in her place. Being a drug addict myself I can finally say I found someone who I can relate to. Pros: The Debut of Anjelina Jolie

Cons: The Loss of Gia Carangi

Before this movie, nobody had heard of Anjelina Jolie. It came out on HBO and caught the eye of people who'd never even heard on Gia Carangi either. Both of these women are now in our minds, thanks to the production and Anjelina's performance.... I'd only read an article about Gia years ago, and could've only wished to see a bio-pic about this person. It's always a treat to see someone's life portrayed in a way that the viewer wished she were still alive. It's also a good thing that the word about Anjelina's performance has made us aware who Gia was. Too bad she's gone, but thankfully Anjelina Jolie is, and I hope she gives more great performances. i remember being 14 when i use to live in my room coming out frequently to get a drink and watching peices of this movie that played numerous times on HBO b/c my parents like to watch movies over & over again. When I was about 15 I finally watched th...e whole thing my girlfriend and her photography inspired friend (who also inspired me as well as the movie.) I fell in love with every scene it had to offer with the teenage gia reminding me of myself. Since then I could recite parts of the movie and quotes became a part of every day life at 21 now I own the DVD just 1 of 3 i've had since. Not 2 speak this movie launched Angelina Jolie into the world of extreme sex appeal superstars...just think she was nobody in HACKERS! Read more Less

I watched this movie ages ago. The first time I seen it was right in the middle of it when she was smoking heroin on aluminum foil. I was young and curious so I watched it when it came on HBO later that night again. It scared the crap out of this you...ng 16 year old. Now, i'm 24, never done drugs, and own this movie. Angelina Jolie really gets underated in a lot of her movies and this certainly is one of them. Angie plays the hard-edged but lovable Gia in a way that only few actresses could pull off. this movie has a good true story line, coked up addict model who likes to drug it up. we get treated to costume changes, so-called bold behavior and even women in the nude. uh excuse me, it is true that sex sells. don't confuse the moronic actres...s with the model. at least the drug addicted model with AIDS was honest. the actor, uh, not so much. The movie was very emotional to watch. Gia had a difficult life full of good and bad choices. Her sexuality was also confusing for her and the only way to cope was with drugs. It really points out how life can be hard to deal with for some people ...and much harder for others. Read more Less
