Pros: Tom Berenger
Cons: Not enough Tom
Tom Berenger is my babys daddy!
A poignant, powerful portrayal of the Men who fought the battle of Gettysburg, and their faith.
Very good acting, great camera angles, excellent music score, an overall highly entertaining movie (especially if you like the Civil War)
Excelent gripping represtation of a turning point in our nation's history.
I watch it all the time. It is so riveting. You are so drawn to Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. I love the special features.
I would hope that Ron Maxwell creates a deluxe DVD edition. I would certainly purchase it.
An amazing combination of historical accuracy and compelling character development makes Gettysburg movie a must see, not just for civil war buffs, but for movie fans across the board.
I really like the movie a lot.
This is the best, most authentic looking and as far as I can tell, historically accurate Civil War movie I have seen. The costuming is excellent; the only thing that bugged me was that the beards looked too perfect. The bonus '60's documentary "The Battle of Gettysburg" was great as were the maps and other extras. I'm looking forward to "Gods & Generals" and "Last Full Measure".
this movie is the best movie ever made, and the book (killer angels) is the greatest book ever written. wow!!!
I would give this is movie ********* (9)stars if I could. The only problem was that General Robert Edward Lee sounds really religous and girly. That might be because of Martin Sheen. Besides that I LOVED THAT MOVIE. I watched the whole movie in one night. That's how interesting it is. I LOVED Jeff Daniels acting in this movie. He was a very good General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. Very good actors and effects.
OK. Everyone else has given this movie all the glory it needs, so I shall give it more glory from the DVD point of view. This film deserves 6 stars because the sound and picture are magnified 200 times compared to on TV or VHS. The battle scenes come to life even more and similar to 'saving private ryan' are about as close to being there as you can get. The cannons shake your house if you have the equipment and as a Pittsburgh native I have read facts that this long battle could be heard in Pittsburgh which is about 200 miles away! Awesome huh?
Gettysburg is a tremendous reenactment of what was probably the turning point of the Civil War. Loaded with an outstanding cast I would put Gettysburg right up there with Gone With The Wind. It was just as if you were reading "The Killer Angels" without opening the book.
One of the most accurate and hostorically correct depictions of the turning point in the Civil War, the battle of Gettysburg. Based almost word per word on the novel "The Killer Angels". Through stunning battle sceans and thousands of extras film viewers will feel like they are standing side by side with the marching Confederate army or feeling the desperation of the waiting Union troops. A must see movie for any Civil War buff, this is probably the best Civil War movie made to date or that ever will be made
A true "must have" for Civil War buffs. The absolute best Civil War movie ever made and quite possibly the finest that ever will be made. My only complaint about Gettysburg was their choice of Martin Sheen to play Robert E. Lee. He just didn't fit the part - although he tried. A very historically accurate depiction of the actual events on the ground where they took place 130 yrs. prior.
This is the most outstanding film I have ever watched. The acting was excellent.
This is to date, one of the finest movies on an American Civil War subject ever produced. The film follows Mihael Sharra's "The Killer Angels", sometimes word for word, though I haven't actually read the book to be absolutely sure. The cast makes the whole subject frighteningly real and personal. The heartfelt reasons for the two sides involvement in the war are brought out with masterful acting and directing. The film is supported by over 5000 living history re-enactors. The climax is supported by 40 recreated cannons firing in series to a deafening creshendo, making the spectacle even more realistic and grand than even C. B. DeMille's "Birth of a Nation". Every historian or military buff that doesn't already own this film needs to go out and buy this one right now. The Cast is awesome with Martin Sheen as Marse Robert E. Lee, Tom Barrenger as Gen. Longstreet, Jeff Daniels as Col. Joshua L. Chamberlain, and far too many more to list even here. Tongue-in-cheek, look for Ted "Captain Outrageous" Turner during Pickett's Charge, and Ken "Civil War Documentary" Burns as the Lieutenant who implores Gen. Hancock to get down from his horse.
