    Truly a Legend

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 18, 2005 | 2 out of 2 found this Get Lifted review helpful

Pros: Well Written Storyline, keeps you interested in "Getting Lifted"

    Cons: ends tooo Soon

Great Debut Album. John Legend has the talent to refresh an industry that used to be known world wide for its classic music and thought provoking emotions. I suggest you listen to the albulm from cover to cover for 4 or 5 times so that you can appr...eciate the true to life storyline. I expect many awards for this artist. With Kanye West powering this ship John Legend should get an opportunity to win many awards this upcoming year. Early Prediction: New Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and the other R & B awards. This Debut is stronger than Alicia Keyes "Songs in A Minor"...and she took home how many awards? My hat is off and much respect to John Legend! Just like Colin Powell as Sec. of Defense...I'm Gone!! Read more Less

Get lifted is a rare gem

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 17, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this Get Lifted review helpful

    Pros: Very soulful and entertaining

    Cons: None

This album is a gem. It's rare to find music that moves you to the extent that this does. The album has a different mix of songs. There are different themes including love being lost but moving on "used to love you". The theme of cheat...ing "she don't have to know" and "number one" feat. Kanye West- these are naughty songs and entertaining. Also of course the theme of being in love "ordinary people", "stay with you", "let's get lifted", "so high" and "refuge". All of the songs in the album have their own value and brilliance (love them!). I especially love "stay with you" and "so high". These 2 songs are so uplifting that listening to them is almost a spiritual experience for me. The production is amazing and beautiful. Read more Less

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 18, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this Get Lifted review helpful

Pros: you can just let it play

    Cons: leaves you wanting more...

I Love this album. Normally I skip the first track(intros), last track and anything that resembles an interlude. I found myself jammin to the intro just like any other track. I imagine it's gonna be hard to top this one; but I'm sure John has... something special in mind for his next album. Can't wait to see him in concert!! Read more Less

Wanna Get Lifted? This Cd Will Do It

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 5, 2006

    Pros: Everything

    Cons: Nothing

Kanye West did the right thing by signing this dude. You’ve heard him before on many other artist projects, mainly playing piano on Lauryn Hill’s “Everything is Everything” and singing the hook on Slum Village’s “Selfish”. So, I’d say that Ka...nye and John thought that it was about time for him to do his own thing and boy did he. The first single was I used To love You. I wasn’t really feeling the song at first but after the radio played it enough, it grew on me. Not enough to get the CD, though. Then on night I couldn’t sleep and I heard on the radio Ordinary People. That was it for me….I just HAD to get the CD. I got it the next day and it was worth every penny. It hasn’t left my CD player since. Kayne and John gave us a masterpiece with this one. John’s piano playing is superb and his vocals are on point. Even Mr. West and Snoop Dogg make guest appearances on songs, as well as John’s whole family on the song “It Don’t Have To Change”. This CD deserved every Grammy it got. Great things will come from Mr. Legend in the future. You just watch. Read more Less

Legend in the making? We'll see.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 17, 2006

Pros: Promising debut with Kanye at the helm

Cons: None significant enough to discuss

"Get Lifted," the debut release from Kanye West protege John Legend, is certainly one of the finer soul releases of 2004, but let's not get carried away with the superlatives. Truth is, this record doesn't stray from the conventions... of the genre we now know as "neo soul," and it follows the neo-retro handbook a bit too closely. But that doesn't mean "Get Lifted" isn't worth checking out. With the assistance of Mr. West's production, Legend serves up an appealing dish of piano-flavored r&b that recalls the 1970s with the occasional dash of hip hop. Legend makes a convincing impression on "I Can Change" (with Snoop Dogg, in his umpteenth cameo), stands out memorably in the piano-only ballad "Ordinary People," and gives us vocal range on the excellent "Let's Get Lifted Again." What makes "Get Lifted" worth the trip is the raw emotion found in Legend's voice and the different moods and flavors that can be found throughout the album. At no point do you suspect that he's jumping on a bandwagon for easy cred, and that can't be said for a many r&b stars these days. Though John Legend hasn't quite yet lived up to his name, this solid debut shows that he's at least on the right path. Grade: B+. Read more Less

One of my favorite CD of 2005 - 2006

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 27, 2006

    Pros: Great voice,great music,great job!

Cons: Not really so remarkable at the first time you listen to it.

It's been a sweet journey since I got this album,I don't really like it at the first time when a friend recommended it to me,but after a few times of the careless listening,I found the voice of this man is really touching as hell! 48th Grammy... has given him much honor for this album, and it is really worthy of that!
