    Relentless rock n roll

This is one of the best albums from one of rock's greatest practitioners. It doesn't fail to please from beginning to end. Edmunds is a tremendous guitar player who honors his listeners with his lack of -self-indulgence. He is also a cunning and ini...mitable vocalist. Get it! Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Get It

  • All Music Guide

Get It marks a significant departure from Dave Edmunds' early records, as it is the first time he's backed by a full band. Most of Get It was recorded with a fledgling version of Rockpile, with other session men filling in when necessary, and the live band gives the album a lively feel which he had previously ignored. Just as importantly, the song selection is more carefully considered than before, containing only a handful of classics and obscure rock roll, and concentrating on pub rock staples ("Get Out of Denver," "Back to School Days," "JuJu Man") and songs written or co-written by Nick Lowe, which gives the album a freshness lacking on his early records. Lowe's homages to the Everly Brothers ("Here Comes the Weekend"), Chuck Berry ("I Knew the Bride"), and Phil Spector ("Little Darlin'") are more appealing than Edmunds' recreations of the originals, because Nick's songs are lyrically and musically clever. But Dave knows how to make them sound like forgotten classics, and that's w...hy Get It is one of his very best albums. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide Read more Less

Dave Edmunds

Throughout his career, he stayed true to '50s and '60s rock roll for Edmunds, rock roll history stopped somewhere in 1963, after the Beach Boys' first singles but before the Beatles' hits. After establishing himself as a hotshot lead guitarist in the bluesrockers Love Sculpture, he launched his solo career by painsta... Read more
