Mothership Connection '88
, February 22, 2001Reviewer: atomic_dog1065 - See all atomic_dog1065's reviewsI'll start by saying I have been attending P-Funk concerts since 1975 and this DVD contains the "feeling" that was felt back in the day. This "landing" was actually filmed in '78,in Houston, TX. Pioneer Artist did'nt print it until '88. Believe it or not, I personally showed this DVD to George Clinton himself in the back of my Chevy Van on 3 APR 00, at East Carolina University. The only flaw I could find was the Video portion of this DVD. It is very dark but it does give it that concert feel. The sound quality is "the way P-Funk" sounded LIVE, over 20 years ago! The Mothership lands twice and of course the late great Glen Goins was the "air traffic controller" who guides it in on top of the tightest P-funk arrangements that ever existed. Jerome Brailey on drums, Bernie Worrell on keyboards, Fred, Maceo, Rick, and Kush, on horns, Boogie on bass, Gary Shider on rythm guitar, Michael "kidd funkadelic" on lead, Larry Frantangelo on percussion, the Brides on background, Ray Davis, Calvin Simon on bass vocals, and George Clinton "all over the place!" If you are a true "70's oldschool" P-Funk fan, "YOU HAVE TO COP THIS ONE!" A special appearance by Bootsy and the Rubberband while "giving up the funk", which leads into "Night of the thumpasorus peoples", which leads into "the landing." The writeup for the DVD is slightly incorrect, it does'nt contain any of the songs recorded after the "earth tour" stuff. Even Mr. Clinton himself had "never seen this footage in it's entirety..." So...order the DVD, call your "funkateer friends", turn off the lights, turn up the stereo, and "give up the FUNK!!" ...
