Completely Underrated
, February 2, 2003Reviewer: Will - See all Will's reviewsGenesis fans are a particularly interesting selection of human. They cry out for rarities and when they are given two box sets containing un-released material, they choose one (praise it) and then spit on the other. The reason? Like always, anything with Peter Gabriel is worshipped and anything with Phil Collins is shoved aside. I may be in the minority here, but I actually enjoy the remixes. I also enjoy the previously un-released live material of the late 70s/early 80s. And my favourite b-side would definitely have to be "On the Shoreline." A very strong song, more up in the area of an album track (if not a single). Anyway, if you are a hardcore Genesis fan and are interested in a bit of variety, by all means, buy this! I bought it on the day of its release and have not been disappointed since. If you believe Phil Collins destroyed Genesis, then don't waste your time. ... -
Genesis Archive #2
, January 5, 2002Reviewer:
brainchild87106 - See all brainchild87106's reviews Spot the Pigeon is quite a collectors item these days. Especially since it was not put on this compilation. Luckily I have it. The rest of this archive is really hit and miss I am afraid. Simply put, most people who enjoyed the 80's incarnation are the ones who can't stand listening to something that was never on the radio to begin with. With tracks like Do the Neurotic and Naminamu I don't think it is going to spawn as much interest. Collins' Genesis fans just aren't as dedicated to the unreleased tracks as fans of the first archive. And with good reason, because the unreleased tracks should have stayed as unreleased tracks. Genesis knew that the tracks were not good enough to be put on an album. Most of the studio tracks from Three Sides Live are on here, in fact that is where they should have left them. I guess Atlantic figured if you wanted the studio tracks from Three Sides Live, you had to shell out 80 bucks for this compilation. Yes there should have been more live tracks culled and released here. I can live without the 12 inch singles, in fact I can live without the singles. Overall, if you are a casual fan of Genesis and like the radio friendly material from the eighteighteighties, then look no further than Turn it On Again:The Hits. This archive is for the die hard Genesis fan that didn't mind the transitional period of the 80's. There are some great moments on this archive, notably Burning Rope and The Lady Lies, but ultimately is not worth the money you have to shell out. Wait awhile and buy it used or pitch in with somebody. No not me... ...
