Pros: Retro Sci-Fi, Thoughtful, Beautiful
Cons: I'm not a fan of Ethan Hawke
This is a great retro sci-fi murder mystery. Beautifully filmed, well-paced, with several surprises. While the cars don't fly, they're still pretty darn cool. There's no lengthy scientific explanations, everyone takes the advances for granted, and they seem to be seamless extensions of current technology. "Gattaca" should make you think about where we are going, and how some things never change.
Pros: good
Cons: best
I thought this movie was great the plot the story was remarkable and so were the actors but most important it really paints a picture for you to realize what people can do with any type of DNA.
Pros: the best movie...Jude Law Rocks!!
Cons: SIMPLY THE BEST
Gattaca is one of the best movies i've seen. The actors, specially Jude Law greatly portray what in the future might become of us. As observed by Huxley and George Orwell our world will be based on technology and the things that we create... our class saw this movie junior year... the best futuristic movie ever....
GATTACA has and will remain a favorite film of mine, ranking in the top 10 'must have' movies. To those I show this movie to, I always begin by telling them that this film requires you to think. If you expect blood, murder, high-tech war machines, intense special effects or hyper-real CG characters, then you will find yourself let doen. GATTACA is a film about science, society and the cultural effect of genetic modification in the very near future. This film was made in 1997, and over the years a lot of the groundwork for a world such as the one portrayed in GATTACA has been laid. Like many worthwhile things, GATTACA is either an acquired taste or is reserved for those who look for something more in a film other than the dime-a-dozen UPN sitcom spinoffs. GATTACA is genuine, unique and quite original. If you have respect for asthetics, futurism dialogue and culture, then I highly advise you to see GATTACA.
Long. Boring. Not even good as a message for this generation or an anti Big Brother film which is what it was supposed to be.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Jude Law deserves supporting actor of the year for this one! Ethan Hawke was excellent as well. My High School biology teacher shows this in class every year, cuz of the ethical science issues it deals with. This movie is hidden classic, you have to see it!
Insightful, poetic and engrossing. This film deserved greater acclaim than it received. Jude Law is excellent and even Uma Thurman finds her niche (at last). The idea is not entirely original - those who have read Huxley's 'Brave New World' will understand - but it is communicated with style and control.
Gattaca is really good. There were grate actors. It was exsiting, and there is a big turn in a person's life it is really good. In the movie I found that I thought that it was like if you wanted something real bad don't give up on it.
We watched this movie in my biology class, sophomore year, and it was a big hit! Defenitely a must see!
This movie was one of the best movies I have ever seen. I love Uma Thurman and I think she did an excellent job in this movie. Ethan Hawke was good in it too.
Incredible! One of the few original films I've seen recently. Great Story, futuristic feel without using hokey special effects. reminiscent of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World
It is always the Hollywood style , there is nothing new , this movie is like any repeatative ones. Whats new???
What an amazing film. The idea and concept are completely unique and Jude Law gives a fabulous performance.
Good acting, directing, and a great overall look to the film. Some of the best writing I have seen in years. A very underrated movie.
What was and is a refreshing departure from the
spate of sci-fi films that are little more than Star
Wars or moronic gunplay potboilers in disguise (See
StarGate and Fifth Element), Gattaca offered something
more intelligent.
The film has its flaws, but it
distinguished itself by aspiring to something more than
laserguns and tiresome spacemuppet circuses.
The story of an "in valid", an outcast from the genetically superior (Ethan Hawke)turns his life around by changing his identity to that of (Jude Law)a genetic wonder. He can now do whatever he wants. Showing you an eerie look into the future, with a plot that always keeps you wondering and glues you to the T.V. Jude Law is the perfect actor whos performance is amazing. A great Sci-Fi Movie!! :)
Gattaca describes well about the human
desire
of becoming perfect.
Background stage is really
good.
But the story is kind of boring.
It sometimes
makes me think 'why/how
am i living?'
I gave
3 stars but most likely between
3 and 4.
Briliant!
From its very intriguing start to
its poiignant yet hopeful ending, this movie was a
pure sci fi classic.
In true Blade Runner style,
the hero, a very fabulous Ethan Hawke, made a
remarkeabke portrayal of an 'in valid', a non genetiacally
engineered human.
It very convincingly showed us a very
plausable, and to some a very desireable, future.
One of
those few sci fi movies where the entire cast is
flawless (or nearly so), with gripping direction from a
newcomer and a beautiful theme that works well to
compliment the smooth narration that it follows.
Highly,
highly recommended.
Faizan.
its rare that you get to experience a movie that
ultimately and completely exudes the director's
vision...this movie ROCKED...I often wonder what a world
rigidly run under genetic law would be like...now I
know!
great character development and excellent choice of
actors!
WELL DONE!
This had to be one of the most brilliant movies ever made the whole plot is outstanding. And Jude Law does a wonderful job of playing his part.
GATTACA is a great movie ! With a bright
Trio of actors , of amazing way of filming , Gattaca makes you have more than a good time !
i watched this movie 5 times already. I still don't like it. The setting and direction is good. I dislike the story. I like Ethan Hawk's performance and Jude Law's depressive character. but the whole plot of it, disturbs me.
Gorgeously filmed. Scary, almost-believable premise. Points out the absurdity that "intelligence" testing can lead to. Should be required viewing for all organizations who use standardized tests (many of whom would use genetic testing if they could...).
