Punk rock fans Bob Darling and Nic Newhams weaned themselves on melodic punk revivalists like Lagwagon and Propaghandi until they decided to start a band together. Drafting in bassist Kirk Huffman and drummer Dustin McGhye, the band christened themselves Gatsby's American Dream and attempted to start a rock band.
