Thanks to guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Donnie Burke, the Gas earned as many comparisons to the articulate anger of Elvis Costello, Graham Parker and Joe Jackson as they did to the tight, catchy punk-pop of the Jam and Buzzcocks. Burke was backed by drummer Leslie Sampson and bassist Dell Vickers; the trio debuted in 1982 with the bleak yet acclaimed Emotional Warfare.
