Pros: Easy to use.
Cons: Garmin web site hard to navigate.
For the most part the Garmin is a pretty good tool. I'm on the road alot with work and it has been helpful to me, but like others have said it does have draw backs. After getting my Garmin I went to the Garmin web site to get the free update to the maps and it failed to load into my system. I have tried to get it to load again and it tells you that you have all the latest updates. I would be willing to purchase the updates but the web site is very hard to navigate so I have not been able to get the system to work. For the most part it is a great help but if you want it up to date be carefull.
Pros: NOTHING
Cons: GARBAGE!!
I bought this at a Walmart - 1st big mistake. They didn't tell me there is only a 15 day return/exchange policy if something goes wrong. I had the unit for 17 days, then it crapped out. Out of the blue, the screen said, "No detailed maps found that support routing" I had 5 more sales calls that I couldn't get too, so I lost not only the money I paid for the unit, but what I would have made on the calls. This happened on Friday. Garmin does not have support help on the weekends after Fri 5pm. No help there. I was 2 days over the 15 that Walmart gave, and Garmin don't care about people on the weekend. Search the web for this Garmin malfunction, it is happening to alot of people, I wish I knew.
Pros: Will navigate for you
Cons: Slow to pick-up the satellite
I purchased my Nuvi 200w one week before I flew to Southern California. I tried the unit before I left and discovered that the unit was working. I returned the unit and the store replaced it. The replacement worked as advertised. When we landed in Santa Ana, CA, I noticed that the unit took a little long before the I was able to pick-up the satellite. Once the unit got going, she became my bestfriend. My newfound friend helped me to get to anywhere I needed to go. Thank goodness for GPS. I no longer have to drive and try to read the map. My Nuvi 200w talks to me and tells where to go, regardless of the traffic or weather condition. The only thing that confuses me are the preparatory calls. For example, my Nuvi says, "9 miles, exit right" when it should be saying, ".9 miles exit right."
I would never leave home without my GPS. I drove around a neighborhood at midnight and I felt comfortable so long as my GPS was with me. I don't think I could drive ever again without a GPS.
Pros: light weight, internal battery, easy to use
Cons: operating manual is not complete
I have used my nuvi 200w for several months and I have found it very useful in travelling. I am responsible for two others having made the purchase, so that says something.
The guidance is not perfect, something that I understand very well. Any GPS system must be tried in known places in order to discover its strong and weak points of operation.
When the letter "Y" went missing from my keyboard, I could not enter addresses that had that letter. I tried changing alphabets (not mentioned in the manual), languages (same) and other settings.
A call to Garmin tech support and an on line suggestion were both the same but not mentioned in the manual. If you have this problem, connect a USB cable that has the proper mini plug on one end to the nuvi and power it up from a computer. This worked and now, if I'm going far from home, the cable (not supplied, but the one that came with your digital camera may work) is going along for the ride. If you buy any Garmin GPS unit, this may be sound advice. It is not likely that the 200 series is the only one with a gremlin inside.
Pros: Will Get You Where You're Going
Cons: Her Lingo Doesn't Always Match Ours!
If you're driving locally and know your way, she may not always take you the shortest, most direct route, but she'll always get you there!
Often her lingo doesn't mesh with ours. She'll simply say, "keep right" when there is a right turn lane, when in fact we would say "turn right." This has caused a problem for us on an occasion or two in a large city where the exits are unfamiliar and the traffic is moving quickly.
Overall, we love our "Greta" and are thankful for her!
Pros: Wife loves it so do i
Cons: nothing bad to say about it
We got this about 2 weeks ago and we can not say enough about it. Program where you want to go and you will get there. We like the idea of the sd slot so we can take the sd card out of our digital camera to look at pictures we have . We should have had one of these years ago as i am one of those men who does not like to stop and ask for directions [old hard headed Swede]..at last from the dark to the light. thanks Will
