    The Game

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 8, 2007

    Pros: Chico Debarge

    Cons: None!

The Game was the second (technically the third) cd from Chico which was another one of my personal favorites! Every single last song is WONDERFUL (I know I said it from the last review) but Chico is such an outstanding, and talented writer, musician,... artist, singer....you name it! He is definitely a refreshing change from all of the crappy supposed singers that are out today! Too bad many people sleep on Chico! Read more Less

    GO CHICO!!!!!!!!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 16, 2000

I just want to say that I haven't bought Chico's album, but I have a single with snippets of songs on it, and I have to say that I didn't really know about Chico until he got out of jail, but EVERY song I have ever heard by him is great!!!! Everythi...ng he sings about usually affects me in some kind of way, maybe because that thing that he sings about may be going on in my life. I really have to say that I admire Chico, and I hope he keeps doin what he's doin. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Game

  • All Music Guide

The Game acts as a perfect follow-up to his 1997 album, Long Time, No See. Like Long Time, No See, many of the tracks on The Game feel deeply autobiographical. On the title track, Debarge tells the story of an ex-con struggling to stay on the straight and narrow, a story that resonates with listeners who know that Debarge himself spent several years in jail for trafficking cocaine. Amid the personal drama, Debarge also provides plenty of mid-tempo tracks aimed straight at the libido. Tracks like the self-explanatory "Sexual" are filled with the kind of growls and yelps of joy that you'd hear on a Marvin Gaye record. While Debarge falls well short of a master like Gaye, he is well on his way to becoming a distinct artist, a welcome relief from much of late-'90s RB which seems to come off an assembly line.
