Funky tracks throughout this album. Although this album is old and dated I still listen to it now,and I was 8 when it was released!!Along with Bobby Brown and Babyface,Guy paved the way for the stars of today such as Joe.

One of the Best CDs ever made---period.

First of all, know that Teddy Riley was the KING of the New Jack Swing. All the CDs that did well from the late 80s to mid-90s seemed to have Teddy's influence. This CD is full of New Jack sounds and offers a little of everything. It combines Tedd...y's abilities with the great voices of the Brothers Hall (Aaron and Damion of course) and you have this killer CD. Pure Dance with "Her" and I Wanna get with you" (Better have bass on that stereo). Cool jams like Do Me Right (with Heavy D), Dog me Out, and Teddy's Jam 2. Mood music like The Future, Yearning for your love and Smile. And, of course pure intimacy with Let's Chill and Tease Me Tonight. I liked Guy until I bought this CD back in '90 and have been wowed ever since. This is truly a masterpiece. Read more Less

New jack swing, a hard-edged, high-tech blend of funk, RB, and rap/hip-hop, has been milked for all it's worth and run into the ground by Guy's numerous imitators in the late '80s and early- to mid-'90s. But in the hands of its highly influential originators, Guy, it sounds fresh and inspired. Though not as strong as the debut album of 1988, The Future is one of the more appealing -- and certainly more authentic -- examples of "new jack swing." Lead by the ubiquitous producer/songwriter Teddy Riley, the trio brings a definite urgency to grinding, forceful funk like "Teddy's Jam 2" and "Her," and to such slow jams as "Do Me Right" and "Tease Me Tonight" (both of which recall the Gap Band à la "Outstanding"). Especially riveting is the all-rap number "Total Control," a brutally honest commentary on exploitation in the music business. It's important to absorb Guy's music and realize that it is proof, against the understandable complaints about the glut of faceless "new jack swing" artists... saturating the market, that it wasn't always cheap and formulaic. - Alex Henderson, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Guy

This seminal RB trio was the first group to sport the new jack swing sound, essentially traditional soul vocals melded to hip-hop beats, with credit for the genre's invention going to founder, multi-instrumentalist, and superproducer Teddy Riley. Riley formed his first band, Wreckx-N-Effect, while still a teenager, with brothers Markell Riley and Brandon Mitchell; Guy f... Read more
