    YOU INSPIRE ME!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 19, 2001

I am currently sitting my finals here in Scotland. When I need inspiration or simply peace of mind I pop on my Geneva "Further" CD. This CD is really effective if played after midnight with moonlight and the stars. "Into the blue" and "Further" give ...me that energy to go on. I sometimes ask myself if the guys from Geneva wrote these songs for me!! Read more Less

    A simply beautiful haunting album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 16, 1999

Andrew Montgomery’s eunuch like voice is outstanding in the brilliant album. From the heavier tracks of Tranquilliser and Into the Blue, to the mesmerising ballads of Worry Beads and Fall Apart Button, brilliance shines through. You simply must buy... this album. A new album is to be released early 2000. Hopefully it will live up to its predecessor Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Further

  • All Music Guide

Sounding like a cross between James and Suede, Geneva occasionally hits sweeping, graceful highs on their debut album, Further. Just as often, they languish in their own pretensions, achieving a fraction of what they set out to do. At their best, Geneva surges with power, creating grand soundscapes with folky overtones and powerful backbeats. Like Tim Booth, Andrew Montgomery's yearning falsetto calls attention to himself, and he does have an extraordinary voice. However, the band hasn't figured out how to harness its power with suitable songs. Most of the songs on Further spill forward with determination, but they don't really go anywhere, which is confirmed by songs as breathtakingly assured and pretty as "Into the Blue." Those are the moments that make Further into a promising, occasionally remarkable, debut, yet there aren't quite enough of them to make it a fully successful record.

Geneva

Taking cues from Suede and Smiths, as well as the Byrds and the Lovin' Spoonful, Geneva carved out a distinctive, idiosyncratic niche in the post-Brit-pop territory of late '90s British indie-rock.Geneva formed in 1992 in Aberdeen, Scotland when Andrew Montgomery (vocals) and Steven Dora (guitar) met and began writing songs together. Montogmery was then working as a jou... Read more
