I think that "Further down the spiral" is the best Reznor's work. He is a talented guy and I think he will proceed shocking his fans!

Yet another remix from Reznor. It's not bad, but i'd rather he consentrated on new material or touring.

Some mixed opinions on this one...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 7, 2001

Okay, this is a review of the UK CD. I'm not going to comment on the US version, as I've not heard it.Piggy is a fairly cool song - Rick Rubin has taken the original's lyrics and added guitars and a selection of break beats. Not the most original thi...ng you're ever likely to hear, but good nonetheless. Part one of Self Destruction is great. Trent has deconstructed the sound of the original into a jagged industrial noisescape that builds up to a harsh, atmospheric climax. Part three, however, is nothing to shout about. J.G. Thirlwell clearly isn't that talented a remixer (his remixes on "Fixed" weren't that great either), as he's maintained the original's structure and merely added a few new sounds here and there. They don't improve the song in anyway, and, if anything, detract from it's quality. The last song on the EP, Self Destruction (Final), is an utter waste of time that goes on for *WAY* too long. Trent would have done well to have left it off the album entirely. Charlie Clouser's remixes of Heresy and Ruiner are great, though. He succeeds in giving them an upbeat, techno-ish sound, with some Meat Beat Manifesto-esque synths tucked away in there. Coil do an absolutely fantastic job with Downward Spiral and Eraser, just as they did with Gave Up (from "Fixed"). The former could be mistaken for an Orb song, while the latter is an intense stream of distorted industrial guitar riffage, and I love the screaming vocals in the background. Very dark and ominous. The biggest disappointment on the album, for me in any case, was track 7 (by Aphex Twin). I don't know if you're familiar with Richard D. James' work, but if you are, you'll know he's capable of so much more. Just check out his new album, "Drukqs", for instance. All in all, not the best NIN remix EP (go and check out the Perfect Drug remix EP, which features, amongst others, Meat Beat Manifesto, The Orb and Plug). Still, there's enough good material to warrant four stars. So, four stars it is then... Read more Less

    It could have been better

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 6, 2001

It might be the worst nine inch nails CD.It's got several songs that are either boring or pointless like the j.g.thirwell remixes, the first one is pratically the same only not as good and second one is just boring, the aphex twin song is also boring....The only songs that are good are: the art of self destruction part one, ruiner and eraser. At the heart of it all is by far the star of this remix e.p. (not even done by nin) but nothing can stop me now (remix of piggy) is a close second the whole cd is good (not great) the self destruction's are not bad at all but part 3 drones on for far... too long (as did the wish remix done by the same person) not the must have of the nin collection but aint bad at all. Re: Disappointing mix of remixes

Well, you also will need to be a fan of Aphex Twin and Coil to love this. There was a couple of these I was dissapointed in, but it's for remix fans. Though most remixes lately have sucked

First of all, Heresy is on the CD, but it's Heresy (version). Second of all, the song Hurt on this album isn't a remix, so your right about that. It's a LIVE version of the song.
