Like the similarly L.A.-based DJ Cut Chemist, Simply Jeff is much better at igniting crowds than the more exhibitionist, philosophical squads up in San Francisco like Invisibl Skratch Piklz. On his first major mix album, Jeff does just that, with a trio of his own tracks, two cuts from the big-beat extraordinaires at Britain's Skint Records and the balance provided by West Coast breakbeat artists of all kinds, from Freaky Chakra to Liquitek Pimps. Moving from old-school through acid-disco and house, Simply Jeff lets the party-hearty beats and great psychedelic grooves lead the way, and it's an enjoyable journey.
