This allows you to capture priceless memories of photographs with every nuance of light and color, even in low light situations without a flash. Real Photo Technology captures treasured moments just as your eye sees them.

The S9000 features a 10.7x Wide Angle Optical Zoom with a focal range equivalent of 28mm - 300mm compared to 35mm film. With Super Macro mode, the S9000 can focus clearly as close up as 0.4". With the addition of a beam assist, the S9000 will be able to automatically focus even in low light conditions.

The S9000 has all its angles covered with a tilting 1.8" LCD making it easy to frame your shot from a variety of shooting positions. And thanks to the LCD gain up control, you'll be able to view the LCD in bright and low light conditions. The viewfinder is electronic with 235, 000 pixel resolution and provides approximately 100% coverage.

Equipped with dual media slots for handling of xD-Picture Cards and Compact Flash/Microdrives, the S9000 lets you concentrate on shooting without worrying about storage space. You can even insert different types of media in each slot and then select which one you want to use to store each image as you shoot.

Whether you choose Auto, Manual, Macro/Super Macro, Movie, Burst/Continuous or any of the 5 Pre-programmed Scene Position modes, the S9000 delivers higher level digital image quality.

    Pros: Lots of features for the price

    Cons: Uses lots of power from the batteries

    I have had a 35mm SLR in the past. I gave it up when I got my Olympus Camedia 3000. I loved the convenience of digital. Having had it now for the last 3 years, during the summer I was considering purchasing a digital SLR to get more control on my pic...tures. I was looking at several reviews and then I happened to stumble on Fuji's announcement of the S9000 camera and that it would be available in September. I figured that I'll wait, take a look at the Fuji when it's available, and then decide. I waited, and September came and went. Then, finally in mid-October, I saw this camera available and it won me over. The fact that it had a great zoom range, without having to change, let alone purchase additional lenses, was a plus. I also liked the fact that this camera allows you to take camcorder-quality movies, where all the SLRs that I was looking at, didn't even do movies.     Pros: one lense does it all

    Cons: slow focusing

    great little camera to carry around when you don't know what pictures you are going to take, it's light, small,, runs on AA batteries,, had a lense equal to three,, 28mm to 300mm. It's not a big SLR digital but it does an excellent job fo...r its size.. Read more Less

    The S9000 has 9 megapixels and a long zoom, at a price that's close to SLR territory.The Fujifilm FinePix S9000 has some of the best attributes of a single-lens reflex model in an all-in-one body, but it's still a large, bulky camera that doesn't cost much less than a true SLR. It has a fixed 28mm-to-300mm lens--quite long for a fixed-lens digital camera, yet the lens is pretty compact. The zoom is manually operated; you just twist the barrel, as you do on an SLR. The S9000 can focus on objects as close as 0.4 inch, and a button on the back of the camera pops up a small window on the LCD that helps when you're focusing manually. Pressing a button on the side of the lens will make the camera autofocus to get you close; release it, and you can then focus the rest of the way by using a ring on the lens. Read more

I think it's stretching credulity a little to suggest it's a direct competitor for an entry-level SLR system, but for many users the image quality differences will be marginal compared to the appeal of live preview and so on.
